You as well. It was quite odd watching a news report from the north with blue skies & a heavy frost
& then going out in a torrential downpour 🙂 I wore the right stuff & stayed warm tho. I have been
off the bike all week with a bug so I felt much better having done the ride.

Got soaked this morning. Took the trice for a spin - that was fine and the fairing kept the legs
dry, but I had to return as I had a cycle-training group.

Despite the bucketing rain, all the youngsters turned up for their first on-road session plus my
9-yr old daughter who is acting as an 'Assistant Instructor'. There were a few cold hands but all
went away very glad they had been out.

Had a wry smile when some parents arrived to take their offspring home in their 4x4s and one
youngster wanted to ride home.

I could have gone out today with a group for a similar distance but took a look at the weather this
am and decided agin it, on the basis that I cycle 130 miles a week commuting so get enough exercise
and have enough chances of riding in rain as it is. But I just had a boring day in instead. I think
I should have gone!

You're a braver soul than I am... after 2 km, I decided that this was not the right day for cycling,
and headed back.

Perhaps it would have been different if I didn't wear glasses... I'm less bothered by getting wet
than I am by having my vision obscured. I think it would be a good idea if someone came up with some
sort of 'bike-umbrella' to deal with this problem.

The bike-brolly would have a metal frame which would consist of an L-shaped rod. The tip of the foot
of the 'L' would be secured to the seat post of the bike so that the stem of the 'L' would rise up
some distance away from the back of the cyclist. At the top of the stem, there would be a number of
'spokes' radiating from the top of the 'L' in a horizontal plane. These spokes would form the
framework for some plastic sheeting which would protect the cyclist from the elements, just like the
plastic sheeting on an umbrella.

Or perhaps this already exists on the market...

For some years, cycling in the rain was the only situation that would see me finding a use for a
baseball cap.

Then I bought a Vau de mountain hat with a sort of visor-y flap thing. Perfect for keeping the rain
off specs (we're talking slow commuting here).

I ventured out and managed 40 miles. I had a headwind (a very chilly North-easterly) on the outward
route, and made damn sure it was behind me for the retrun route, which was fantastic. Flying along.

Took a long bath and wolfed down a bowl of soup (winter veg -- my own recipe) with extra-crusty
bread when I got home.

Things ain't so bad.

front forks.

Went for my second ride with the Coventry CTC today (thanks for the advice Rich B and Guy)
and thoroughly enjoyed it! Luckily it only started raining after lunch. B*b tights stayed
nice and warm too!

Sorry, contacts don't agree with me... too much soreness and redness, and I find it impossible to
get used to the idea of poking my finger in my eye to put them on. Anyway, glasses are pretty much
part of my persona now... people who know me wouldn't recognise me without them!

I agree, nice idea but wouldn't a side wind cause the center of gravity to be raised quite a bit?

Not necessarily. If the wind were bang on the side, it might give you a boost (if the angle's
correct)! I wouldn't be seen dead using one myself, though.
