Great site. One thing surprised me though - people who use a
trike for the base vehicle don't seem to do much in the way
of putting a floor on.

My main interest in fairing is to protect myself from the
bad weather
- speed is second. I'll keep searching, I have all summer to
work out what I want to do.

With a floor, it sounds like a velomobile might be more what you are looking
for. I think bentrideronline.combentrideronline.comOpen ↗ has a 'board for velos and
probably links in the bike reviews archive.

It's not so much that I want a floor - I was just wondering
how dry things were without a floor.

I have my trike and even though it's only a couple of days I
love it. It's really just a case of how winter proof can I
make it. I would love to be able to keep going all through
the winter.

Time will tell.

In my experience - very dry (except for the sweat). I loaned
a Leitra for a week this winter, and there's no wheels
inside the fairing, therefore no spray whatsoever. And you
dont have dirt on the floor.. Apart from that, you really
need a good ventilation in a velomobile, to avoid the
humidity, in particular on the windscreen.

The next (longer, more sporty) Leitra might get a kind of
floor, a desicion based on vindtunnel experiments - the
floor gives 20% improvement on the cw value.

We're in the north-east of England and ride our trikes
through the winter without fairings. I find mudguards, a
decent waterproof, gloves and warm clothes quite sufficient
(but then I have a built-in insulation layer too! :-)).

By all means build a fairing if you want to of course, but
it isn't an absolute necessity IMO.
