Its noticeable that a lot of the time he carries his helmet on the
handlebars while cycling (although the BBC cameras did film a long clip
of him fastening it on for this morning's story) So clearly not
convinced and my local MP is the Shadow Health Minister who seems to
have a balanced view on such matters from the responses to my letters.

I thought he looked quite competent cycling, standing up and honking to
speed away from the cameras. Made a far better fist of it than Fatty
Two Jags and numerous other politicians I've seen trying to look
pro-cycling while clearly not having been on a bike for years.

Just so. I haven't seen him, and I have an instinctive loathing of
Conservative politicians anyway, but at least he does seem genuinely to
be trying. Any politician (or other opinion setter) on a bike is
infinitely better for cycling and for cyclists than the same person not
on a bike.

training project. Perhaps I should invite the leader of the

What money is needed? All that's required is to give whoever is
responsible the powers to ban unauthorised motorised traffic from the
area immediately outside schools at the appropriate times in the morning
and evening, plus advice to schools to instruct parents not to attempt
to drive to school. Doesn't have to cost anything, and as the message
that driving children to school puts them at worse risk than walking /
cycling, people will start to switch away from it.

Which would also stop all legitimate users who have nothing to do with
the school from driving just about anywhere.
