  1. Last June, I noticed a problem with my forks being mad flexy (brakes rubbing
    in turns!):
    snipurl.com3koj

There didn't seem to be a hubbub about it, so I kept riding.

I read this 4 days ago (mtbr.com reviews of the fork): snipurl.com3koe

I checked my bike later that night and didn't notice anything, but I probably just missed it. Today,
after some serious tire/fork rubbing, I looked it over carefully and found this crack:

    /skarebcrack5.jpg"]http://plaza.ufl.edu/phillee/[censored]/skarebcrack5.jpg

Looks like even 140lb me can dish out enough for this fork. Maybe I can pay a little more for a
Manitou Minute upgrade! (Never Marzocchi, never!!!)

Westie, I noticed you had the same problem with this fork... ever get that Bomber?

I like living on the edge 😉

Real answer: I can't really afford it, I don't need to put that much money into a fork anyways.
Sure, it'd be nice, but I have enough confidence in RockSux and Manipoo (um, other than my
    current fork).

I was never able to break my Rock Shox FSX, well I cracked the arch the first day but that's
removable and the steerer creaked around in the crown but that's nothing JB weld won't fix, oh and
no headset race in existence would fit the tube so I couldn't really install it properly. But no sir
    I never broke in half.

Gear, you can't break it if you can't ride it.

I've been pretty happy with my Marzocchi forks, and I'm a clyde running their lighter models. No
matter what you do, I feel for ya. Sucks to bust expensive gear.

The only real expensive company on the market right now is fox. As long as you stay away from the
super high end models (like the marathon series), they're not much more expensive than comprable
manitard or rockshucks forks. There are always KILLER closeouts on last year's models too...

  10. Get the Marzocchi. I picked up a 2001 Z3 last year for cheap from the LBS because they wanted to get
rid of it. I could have don't better online but they put it on and I left in an hour. I paid about
$199. My old Manitou started to creak and I dumped it. The Marzocchi did creak last Winter and I
sent out to them and they fixed it. The 2000 and 2001 cryofits have some creaking issues but they
assured me that they have never had one break. I also read online that they all creak. The fork is
    really awe inspiring. Super plush.

Fox is really nice but still up there in price. GP "Phil, Squid-in-Training"

When you mention closeouts, do you mean closeouts through the LBS (as in the stock they have left

Consumer - check places like www.pricepoint.com, www.cambriabikes.com, and so on.

Through online sites, mostly. They order large stocks, so they always have leftovers. And pricepoint
often buys out closeout stock from distributors and then resells them to public for super cheap.

If you surf the on-line parts places, you'll see some way fantastic prices on '02 and '03 forks. But
I have had good luck (fingers crossed) with eBay. My two Marz forks *together* cost less than $200,
and all I've done is a little maintenance (which you have to do anyway.) Even if I have to reseal,
rebush and reoil both forks tomorrow, I'm still way ahead.

There are some serious deals, but you do have to be careful and get all kinds of good pictures, and
ask all the right questions. Caveat emptor, baby. 🙂

I've purchased 3 Manitou forks on Ebay in the past few years - including a like-new black Mars Super
w/ lockout - for under $200 together. The Mars Super was only $90! I bought a 1 year old Marzocchi
MXR in like-new condition for $110, when the cheapest online prices were more like $239. Never had a
problem with any of the forks, but I like the Manitous better than the Zoke.

You got it. Ask lots of questions, deal with reputable people (high positive feedback). I've never
had a bum deal on Ebay after 116 trades.

When I wanted to replace the Manitou that came with my bike I did an internet search and found that
Supergo was having a close out on Marz Marathon '03 for a decent price.

    supergo.comprofile.cfm

They are $339 now, I paid $369 8 weeks ago.

I think Manitou has some decent forks but the Mars isn't one of them. You don't find it to be
impossible to find the middle ground between bottoming out nightmare and so stiff you are wondering
where they hid the lockout lever? I just hate single chamber air forks in general I guess.
