  1. Hello all,

I am new to Atkins and I really hope to lose weight. I need to. I have
signed up with ediets to have daily menu. Has anybody tried this? If yes
with what kind of results. I am eating enough but here is the problem: I am
not losing weight like I should and I am not in Ketosis. I have excluded
from the diet red meat, pork and bacon. I also now that some high blood
pressure medicine make me metabolic resistant but I cannot stop taking at
this time. Doctors orders. What should I do to reach ketosis? Any suggestion
    is appreciated.

    Thank you

  2. You haven't said how long you have been doing this, or how much you weigh.
How do you know how much weight you "should" be losing, everyone is
different, some lose slowly or perhaps it is just your perception and
expectations that are off. How do you know you are not in ketosis--how many
carbs per day are you eating? Why would you exclude red meat, pork and
    bacon--Atkins is strong on these.

How long have you been doing this? What's your daily carb level? How do
you know that you're not in ketosis? By the way, it's not necessary to be
in ketosis, and you may be even though your strips may not be the
    brightest color (is it purple?).

  4. ok,ok, I forgot some important info..... I told you I was new 🙂

ok, I weigh 383 lb and I started about 3 weeks ago. Took me some time to get
organized so lets say about 10 days. The reason way I don't eat red meat,
pork and bacon is because I have a problem with Uric Acid, if it goes up I
get gout. In the ediets menus there is a lot of cheese since I took off the
    meat.
I now that I am not in Ketosis because I checked with the strips, just like
    the book says to do.
In these 10 days I have lost a little and I understand that going slow is
ok, just want to be sure I am on the right path.

    Thank you for the help.

I forgot to mention in my last post that calories DO count, so you might want to
go easy on the cheese. Some others here have had experience with gout and can
better advise you on that than I can. It may be a matter of getting enough water
and just cutting back, but not necessarily cutting OUT.

proteins will turn to carb/glucose in the body if you eat too many of them.

  9. Hello Augie,

Welcome to ASDLC. Looking at what you post, it seems like that you
might be eating too much cheese. There was a debate here a while ago
on whether cheese got loads / hardly any carbs. To be honest I have
no idea who won the debate, but since you're in Induction, it's best
to play it safe and assume that it has quite a bit of carbs.

I don't know how much food would get you feel satiated. May be quite
a lot of veg sauteed with butter might help? Fat helps to make people
feel satiated and while you're in Induction you can be quite liberal
with it (but not overly becoz if you eat too much fat then the body
would burn the dietary fat instead of the bodyfat). BTW you're quite
right in not eating bacon - many processed meat has carbs or sugar
substitutes which looks like carb to the body.

OK, that's how far I can say based on what the facts that you've given
us. There are many here who are way more knowledgeable and successful
than I am, but they need hard facts to work on though. So I'd suggest
that you provide a full list of food you eat every day, complete with
good indicators on how much you've eaten. Since you're following the
eDiet menu, it shouldn't be too much trouble for you to cut and paste
    it in here?

Hope it all goes well with you.

    Cheers,
    Ada

Regardless of the outcome of the referenced debate, cheese is generally NOT
high in carbs, especially hard cheeses. Most are well below 1 g per ounce.
It's important to check labels, however, as there are some exceptions. Soft
cheeses, and things like cottage cheese, are a bit carbier and best saved
    for after induction.

If the OP is eating large quantities of cheese, it can add up. But the more
significant effect on weight loss would be the very high calories in all
that cheese. I believe Atkins has limited hard cheese to a couple ounces a
day during induction, due to the high calories. Personally, I found cheese
to be very helpful during induction and probably ate more than the 2 ounces
for the first week or so. It's probably more important to successfully shift
from a carb-centered diet to a fat/protein-centered diet, than to keep
calories low, during induction. Once that transition has been made, about 2
weeks for most people, then it's a good idea for many people to make a point
of limiting somewhat cheese and other high-fat (high calorie) foods in order
    to help weight loss along.

Thanks Hannah for pointing out that hard cheese are better. I'm a
sucker for Camerbert and similar cheeses... so I thought all cheese
are as carby as they are.
