Please excuse me for I must gush.
I bought a Carry Freedom Y-Large a couple of weeks ago. Due to teething
troubles with the hitch which were swiftly solved by Carry Freedom --- A1
customer service --- I only got to use it in anger this weekend. With the
addition of some chav tape, extra luggage straps from Halfords, a cheap LED
blinkie and two cheap 50L boxes from Focus, selected for their eyecatching
lids which are the colour of radioactive custard, I was good to go[1].
Without complaint it transported numerous bottles of BEER, my minimal
Christmas shopping, vegetables from the market and various other items. It
is just *so much* easier than panniers, especially since you can open the
boxes and use it as a shopping cart. Unfortunately tall bottles like Budvar
and milk are too tall for the boxes which is a bit of a nuisance when
you try and shut the lids. The bike definitely handles significantly
better under load than with panniers and best of all drivers leave acres of
room when overtaking and generally behave themselves. The Theory of BIG in
action!
Downsides - none really, though it has meant my shopping bill has increased
a little since I can now buy lots of extra things without worrying about
getting them home. I expect this will average out over time though.
So far I've nothing but praise for this trailer.
Regards,
-david
[1] The Y-Large loadbed is an awkward size so one of the boxes has three of
the little "feet" attached and the other box has one. Both boxes also have
little brackets attached so the straps can't slide around. Hopefully I'll find
a box of the correct size soon but in the meantime I can use the box with
three feet alone or both together without difficulties.
