  1. On a "just need to let people know" basis, I thought I'd post my good
news. As I cycled into our street tonight from work, I rounded the
corner to meet our eight-year-old with a great big grin on his face,
cycling towards me yelling "Dad! I can ride my bike!"

He's been trying, on and off, for ages to learn how to ride, but would
get dispirited very easily and not try again for months: As he has
Aspergers syndrome, trying to help him treads a very fine line between
encouragement and overwhelming him, at which point everything just
becomes too much for him to cope with. Obviously this was very
frustrating for him, especially when most of his peers have been riding
a bike for some time, so to see such joy in his face brought a lump to
my throat. He was so pleased with his new skill he spent 3 hours riding
his bike until it got too dark (he wants me to get him some lights now!)

I'm already planning our first "whole family" cyle ride, and he's
pleased that his Pashley Pickle tricyle can now go to help another
little boy in the village who would benefit from it.

All in all, a great end to the day 🙂

That is fantastic. It was only this year that my 8yo was finally able
and happy riding his bike. It ahs taken a lot of gentle encouragement
and persuasion but now he and his siblings can't get enough of being
    out on their bikes.

Terrific. Another new cyclist is born.
Enjoy sharing the experience with your new riding companion.

I was about that age when I first rode a bike, and I can still remember
it now! Looking back to see why Grandad wasn't talking to me (I thought
he was holding onto the back, but he'd let go miles back!), and I
promptly fell off! Never looked back since. (Read that however you
    like!!!!!)

One more of us, one less of them. That's always good news.

    Well done Colin's youngster :-)

    Congratulations to him 🙂

Even today I can /still/ remember that moment in 1977 and how good it was (I
    am 34 now!)

Strange - I seem to have got some grit in my eyes suddenly (reaches for
    tissues). :-)
