Hello everyone. Can someone tell me what I need to convert my V-Brakes on my front wheel to disc brakes? I hear I need to change my hubs. You will need to mount the disc caliper on your fork.
A Shimano example at the XT level is at URL:

You will need a wheel that has a hub that mounts the disc.

You will need a brake lever and either hydraulic or cable connection to the caliper.

You will need a compatible disc.

There are many choices.
You can't use your existing front wheel. If you are going this way, I think you will need to build/buy a new wheel.
You might want to add up everything you will need for this replacement project befor beginning.

Is it possible to change the hub on my current wheel? I was under the impression that I could unscrew all the spokes on my current wheel and start over with a new hub that fits which ever disc I decide to go with. If that's not a possibility the bike companies are screwing us.....Haha.

Yes, it is possible, but not practical to change the hub on your current wheel.
You would need new, different length spokes, to build the disc wheel. You would only be re-using your rim. The cost to buy new hub, spokes, nipples, and build them with your existing rim would likely exceed the cost of buying/building a new disc wheel. You can always sell your old wheel.

You need a new front wheel with disc hubs, as mentioned, and if you are on the cheap, get some Hayes mechanical disc brakes which do not require new brake cables...the ones you have now are compatible. Cambria bikes has a load of cheap (read deep discount) front disc wheels.

if you cant afford to change all the and get the disc brake (i realy suggest gettin a hydraulic one, mechanical are not alot better than V's) you could consided maguara HS33's. they are rim brakes but are hydraulic, they are amazingly responsive and are £60 for front or back. i have them on the back and would never change, even for a hope disc.

disc brakes are better the bigger the rotor so there for rim brakes should be the best disc brake. this nearly proves that the true upgrade is not to disc brakes but is infact to hydraulic system.
