<snork>
Whenever I see shouting debates on TV, I turn the channel...
But then, I watch less than an hour of tv per week.
All my news and entertainment comes from the radio, and the internet.
Cheers!

That's too bad, really, because if you are selective, there are some very
good (define good in almost any way you like) things to find on TV.
Why do folks seem to take pleasure in dumping TV? Well, I guess if your
watching habits make you a sitcom/reality-tv/idiotbox junkie, then I can
understand....really.

It's the same mentality that says McD's burgers are bad, but the same
thing at home is good food. Raised-pinkie pretensions. If you follow
Sturgeon's Law (90% of everything is [censored]), anything can be sneered at.
But it's the people who equate whether they like something with an
absolute statement of quality that I enjoy skewering. "I don't like it,
so it's bad" gets me going. A few pointed questions usually settles them
down.
Good tv?
House
CSI Miami
Crossing Jordan
Mind of Mencia
CSI
West Wing
Gilmore Girls
Two and a half men
That 70's show
My choices. And the reason I like them is because I think they have good
stories with smart writing and terrific acting. Poignancy, recognizing
the foibles of humans and somehow still showing faith in humanity. YMMV

Because, for 50 years, movies have told us that TV is dangerous or
stupid.
Because, in the begining, (like 1946) everything was good. Kids
respected their elders. people didn't mix along racial lines.
Conservatives actually were compassionate and liberals weren't crazy
radicals. Then came TV, and it's all been downhill from there ;-)
I haven't watched network TV regularly in a while (outside of my
Yankees 8-) and my Jets :_( ), but there is so much good (again defined
however you like) stuff on cable.
Stuff I like:
Surreal Life & any spinoff of that (Strange Love, my Fair Brady, etc).
Breaking Bonaduce (very guilty pleasure. It's so rare when you can
honestly say, "This is going to end with murder/suicide".)
Professional Bull Riding
Movies movies movies
Seinfeld reruns
Carnivale
I could go on and on. But then again, my bachelors is in Film & TV.
I just discovered the My Fair Brady & Breaking Bonaduce train wrecks
.... can't seem to tear my eyes away.
I used to LOVE That 70s Show, but these days all I watch on a
consistent basis are crime documentaries and VH1 -- for the music in
the mornings and the train wrecks in the evenings.
