This morning the road was damp, but not wet. However someone had dropped
a bit of oil/diesel coming off the slip road. When I hit it, the back
end just went away from me before I could even blink and I was eating
the black stuff. Fortunately the beamer behind me managed to stop in
time and a couple of builders helped me to the side and got me home with
the bike in the back of their van.

Oh! I forgot a couple of things

1. No, I wasn't wearing a h*.

2. To add to the jacket for commuting debate there is an additional
element. I was wearing a Berghaus Gore-Tex jacket. It protected me from
abrasions to my shoulder and although it needs a clean it does not
appear to have any rips.

Ouch. Glad you're not badly hurt - you might be able to pass the grazed
cheek off as an horrific shaving accident.

That is always a worry on main roads.. I nearly hit someone in my c*r
may moons ago, but was driving cautiously so managed to stop in time..

Nice to know that some WVM are nice..
The injuries are almost a carbon copy of my last serious accident (in
1986) except that was on loose gravel on the road, not diesel. The
scars are still visible.

With regard to h****ts, I am not convinced one would have made much
difference, and possibly made it worse. Skin tears when you try to
grab it with tarmac, and slides. Polystyrene doesn't and could have led
to a very nasty rotation. It would have 'saved your life' at a speed
vastly in excess of it's design capacity.

injury.

Possibly, but for that to happen it would need to be recorded. I did not
go to A&E for treatment.

I went to school at Burdiehouse primary school and lived at Southhouse
(Broadway), where I lived is demolished now. Southhouse was a
desirable estate back in the late 60s when we first moved there but in
the late 70s~80s it became full of drug addicts and other undesirables.

There is diesel everywhere these days. You have to expect it on every
tight bend and anywhere that cars stop, as well as the obvious place
(filling station exits).
