Hi
I've just treated myself to a Lowe Alpine Walkabout 35 rucksack, my
first new one for many years. "In My Day" a rucksack was just basically
a bag and it was obvious how it worked but with this new one I'm
wishing it came with an instruction manual! It has adjustable straps
and mysterious pockets all over the place. However it is the hydration
system I'm most confused by at the moment and rather hoped anyone who
owns one of these or has a degree in rucksackology could help me out.
I've never used a hydration system before but I noticed this little
flap with a H2O symbol on it so I guess the rucksack can be used with
one - the flap is for the tube I expect? What I can't work out is where
the bladder/bag bit would go - shouldn't there be a pocket to put it
in? There is a velcro cover that reveals a void going down behind the
bit of board that stiffens the back, but it seems rather small for this
purpose and would put a lot of pressure on the water bag.
Other mysteries are what the velcroed pocket right at the bottom is for
and why is there a yellow squidgy lumpy thing behind it (I guess to
protect the contents when the bag is put down?), and what is the best
order to adjust the four straps that adjust how the sack sits on the
shoulders.
