how to convert to single gear from 9 speed cogset

had a intact derailleur hanger.

Also- what kind of bike is it? Many use common derailleur hangers- it
could be as easy as going to http://derailleurhanger.com and ordering
the right part.

All you need is cogset spacers, a loose 18t cog, maybe a chain
tensioner if you don't have horizontal dropouts...ideally,
track(shurter) chainring bolts to mount one chainring...line the
chainline up with the spacers-go ride.

I don't ask much, and am generally greatful for updates/corrections to
material on my website.

I would ask folks to have the simple courtesy to do it in private email,
rather than by scolding me publicly in a newsgroup posting I might never
even see.

I would have done the same with this message if the poster had provided

You need spacers to take up the space of left by the missing 8 cogs. You will
also need a chain tensioner. That's about all you will need.
