I understand losing weight fast can make for droopy skin.
Frankly....just being 55 has made me plenty droopy.....well, that and
that I USED to bake in the sun (wot an idjit) Im paying for it
now.....When I see a young person lying in the sun now...I want to run
over and say, "LOOK! THIS is what happens 20 years from now!....See that
droopy, foldy thing on my LEG??? That's my KNEE, man..."
I think there are a LOT of factors at work as far as skin shrinkage is
concerned and genetics is probably the most important factor. My skin
was shrinking some during the first year of weight loss, but in the
last 6 months I've seen a marked increase in sagging/wrinkling. I'm
not sure how much is due to weight loss and how much is due to me being
nearly 50 (in two weeks). Would I have been this saggy if I had never
gained the weight? Hard to say. Doesn't much matter, I guess, I'm
that way NOW. I was stretched out for about 8 years (and had been up
and down for about 8 years before THAT). NOW I notice that pretty much
everywhere the body has a sticking joint for muscles, the skin wrinkles
above it (above the elbows, above the knees, above the belly button).
It's taken me almost 2 years to lose 64 lbs, so it's not because I lost
it quickly. I'm also dealing with perimenopause, so who KNOWS what
kind of kinks THAT throws into the mix.
It's disheartening enough to even consider stopping my loss or even
gaining some just to alleviate some of the sagging, but not really --
I'd STILL rather FEEL better than look better, and it's just a matter
of getting used to it -- I got used to being fat, after all. Besides,
I might win a lotto someday and then I'm off to the plastic surgeon :-)
People who say other people should grow old gracefully clearly haven't
grown very old yet or they wouldn't say that :-)
