This question is purely out of curiosity...since I've taken up cycling, I've only gotten a cold once every ten years or so. I've read that vigorous exercise creates an artificial fever and helps to boost your immune system. Anyone?

I don't ride half as much as many of the those who post on this forum, and I probably only do one 85+% heart rate workout every two weeks. It seems I "catch" a cold just as often as any of my friends and co-workers. Unlike them, most of my colds never "take hold". I have mild symptoms for half a day and they're gone. It's only once or twice a year that I actually have symptoms that last longer, usually a day and a half or maybe two. I've only had legitimate flu symptoms once in the last five years.
Given the above article, I may have found my sweet spot. Unfortunately, the sweet spot won't win me any races. I'll have to up the intensity and double the hours to do that. I also take a lot of supplements: multivitamins, flax seed oil, CLA, glucosamine, echinacea, bilberry, tribulus, cal-mag plus zinc, chromium, ...

I got it twice last season, this season I`m OK so far..
I take one vitamin pill and I think it helps..tcklyde said:

The last 2 times I have been really sick were 1996 and 1998. Since then if I do get sick the symptoms only last like 18 hours and then I'm recovering. I find also that a good ride will really clean you out if you have a lingering head cold.

I think the answer to this question could be directly related to how many kids you come into contact with on a regular basis. 😉 My wife and I don't have children and neither of us have as many colds as our friends with kids....
Not exactly scientific, just an observation. I rarely get sick enough to miss work (OK I never REALLY "MISS" work, sometimes I'm just not there 😉 )

I've gotten it bad twice in the last year (once in July and once in December). I usually get hit with something in the spring or summer and always around Christmas. Traveling usually increases my succeptability to catching something.
I've had a few minor colds since then, and when I say minor, I mean drainage in the throat when I wake up. When I detect that, I lay in on the C and Zinc and usually by the next morning I'm as healthy as a horse.
