I did something like that when I was a kid. Thankfully it
was before consumer video and nobody wanted to waste film. I
slammed face first into the ground off of a 4 ft tall ramp
jump we built at the end of our street because I, for some
freakin unknown reason, tapped the rear brake after my front
wheel left the ramp but before my rear wheel left it. I mean
SLAMMED into the pavement. Ever since I haven't been too
keen on catching air.

Seems like half the kids in town around here. Well, that's a
jealous exaggeration.

I live in a moderately prosperous area (some welfare-grade
housing, but mostly ranging from working-class to doing very
well indeed), and see a surprising number of kids on things
like Brodie dirt jumpers, Norco VPS machines, modified
trials bikes, and other specialty $1000-4000 bikes.

Mind you, I'm just outside Vancouver in an area within
riding distance of some great trails, and about two blocks
from one of Ryan Leech's regular practice trials parks.

Any swell over 6', I was spectating. Even a 5' swell
translates up to triple-overhead with a LOT of water moving
at The Wedge.

The Point [in Newport] is kind of a misnomer: not a typical
point we normally associate with. But if you're on the
Newport pier and look south, you'll see the long drawn out
sand point. Doesn't break that often, but when it does, it's
usually epic ... seen more than a few surfboards snapped in
half there.

"Dead Ladys" because of a body that washed up on shore there
