If Nike does not do as it has said, you are free to take them to court.
Why
Quoted message said:Quoted message said:would they not do it and risk losing the goodwill of so many potential
customers? I guess some people will always think of corporations as
evil.

Now who pays your salary?
Well, considering that the yellow bands are often given out for free
and associated with Nike and other corporate marketing materials
without any attachment to LAF fundraising solicitation, I don't see
how the whole promotion does much more than sell brand names...and
Lance's image. I think we are all being taken for a ride here...and
that includes the cancer community.
Dumnbshit, do you know about the LAF? If you do, how is it "taking the
cancer community for a ride" to promote the Lance brand as connected to
cancer awareness?
Well, indeed I do know about the LAF. They have a great message of
hope. Too bad it is being directly used by Lance and his partners to
make money. Nike paid for the cost of the yellow bands (at least
according to the marketing explanation) and then the selling of them
will raise one dollar for the LAF (20 cents goes to administration and
fund-raising and 80 cents to programs). Well, is seems that often the
bands are given away along with other marketing material which
promotes corporate associations with the LAF, Lance himself, and
without any fund-raising at all for LAF. Huh.
When you place that in context with the fact that Lance's Nike
endorsement contract is $8 million a year, and that the LAF has yet to
even raise that much in one year, and Nike gets a marketing stone that
hits both brand awareness and image enhancement at the same time...you
have to wonder.
Rember, despite the great message and commendable efforts on the part
of the LAF, they are in the single digit hundreths of one percent of
the total contribution to cancer awarenes and fight. Lance makes an
enormous amount of money off of this association...more than three
times the LAF's annual fund-raising before admin and fundraising costs
are deducted. The corporations that endorse Lance wouldn't be doing
it if they too didn't make good on that investment. A small, but very
honorable piece of cancer advocacy and hope to the cancer community,
but a huge chunk of millionaire pie for Lance and his endorsers. Don't
get me wrong, I am not demeaning the LAF in any way, just Lance and
company for taking advantage of this association as part of a direct
marketing strategy.
So, how's being taken for a ride? Well, yes, the cancer community is
when they are being directly marketed to by Lance and
company...especially when the bands don't generate a penny for cancer
causes.
