How much does your bike weigh?

I'm going to mess up your poll a bit, but you didn't specify what type of bike. I can only assume you are after road bikes as they're about the only type of bikes that are in your range of weights.

But, for what it's worth, my piece of junk bike weighs in at about 45 pounds. The comfort bike I'll be getting [eventually] will be 31 pounds. Still much above the weights you specify. Should be fun to see the poll results though! 🙂

My road bike hung on the scale recently at 18.75 lbs, soaking wet with the tool bag. With the tool bag off and the (empty) water bottles removed, it's a tad below 18.

Now if I switch back to my light wheelset and non-gel saddle, I think it would lose around a pound. 😉

I have never bothered to weigh my road bike as it is too old and heavy to worry about. In fact my MTB is almost as light as my roadie with Rock Shox and all! I have weighed my track bike though and it came in at 7.4kg without pedals (Dura-Ace SPD-r) This isnt super light (but getting there) and it does its job flawlessly on the velodrome.

sparknote_s...LOL just thought of some things u may have forgotten/neglected to weigh. Just being silly/smart really. lubricant (got that from a motrobike magazine!), bar-tape, rim-tape, headset spacers (if necesarry), cables. Dunno if i have missed anything or doubled up on others.....have fun weighing all that stuff!

well according to Schwinn 36lbs
and in 79 it was consitered a lightweight
hmmmm

about 25 lbs...it's a mt. bike though! 🙁 sucks.

I think my not-super-light Peugeot aluminium road bike weighs around
11-12kg normally loaded with a couple of bidons and some tools.

My MTB's are heavy as! 🙂

17.3 lbs with pedals, (colnago active with ultegra group).

Currently a 58cm steel frame with 105/Ultegra [censored], and 36 hole beater wheels, I'm guessing around 23 or 24 ..........

My lightest bike ever was 19.5 lbs, and that was with a 60 cm steel frame ....... not too bad for 1995!!!

Frame size makes a huge difference in weight.

Izzodesh, the site is neat, but you got to admit it gets a bit freaky. I don't know about you guys, but I already have waaaay more bike than I can justify.

I am not looking to save weight on my bike, when I, ehm, could save more than a bit around the middle... 😄

A good point. Since March, I've lost more than the complete weight of my bike. It's made a bit of a difference too 😉

i stripped down my bike over the weekend for a quick over haul and decided to weigh all pieces seperatly for an accurate weight, the results are as follows;
57cm frame: 1.427kg
fork: 440g
brake calipers: 334g
shifters: 502g
wheels: 1.598kg
front mech: 81g
rear mech: 218g
b/b: 231g
chainset: 672g
cassette: 194g
pedals: 380g
h/set: 160g
stem: 150g
h/bars: 200g
cables: 95g
s/post: 195g
bar tape: 20g
inner tubes: 168g
saddle: 318g
tyres: 332g
s/clamp: 24g

total weight: 7.999kg 🙂

the bike is a colnago active with full ultegra, ksyrium's millenium bars and stem, and time pedals. 😄

What's everyone using for scales? How are you weighing? Standing on the scale and subtracting your weight? Some bike shops use fish weighing scales hung on the rafters. Whenever I hear people talking about weight, I'm always wondering how accurate their scales are. I'm not saying they are lying but scales can be incredibly inaccurate.

So... what's the best way to weigh your bike?

Both of the bike shops near my house have bike scales. They're both analog. I've seen a digital one before, and it was really cool. Gave a digital reading in lbs and grams.

it's hard to get a 60 cm bike under 18lbs. mine is about 18 1/4 ish

the easist way is to simply weigh yourself at home, shoulder the bike and do it again.

Well, lets see. According to the data sheet it should weigh right around 30 LBS. I've never weighed it. It is a Rans Tailwind recumbent. Except on the hills it is just as fast as my old Trek 1000 aluminum road bike. Faster going down hill. Since I commute add to that another 10 pounds work of stuff in a backpack slung over the back of the seat.
