How many of you carry a gun as part of your cycling equipment?

Whatever floats yer boat...

Rabbits? Not so much. Pit bulls that are trying to shred me or someone else? Pistol gonna go 'Bang!'.

Armed neighbor saves boy from pit bull mauling, KDKA, Pittsburgh, Pa. 01/10/16

Tuesday, January 12, 2016

A husband and wife were at home in Pittsburgh, Pa. when the wife heard the screams of a 14-year-old neighbor. The boy was calling for help, as his 7-year-old brother was under attack by a pit bull. The wife alerted her husband, who retrieved a gun and went to the site of the attack.

When he arrived, the dog was on top of the boy, prompting the husband to shoot the dog in the rear in order to halt the attack and not harm the child. The first shot got the dog off the boy, but as the dog continued to act violently, the husband was forced to fatally shoot the animal. The husband then carried the boy, who suffered facial lacerations, out of the house. (KDKA, Pittsburgh, Pa. 01/10/16)

OK, so in this case it's justified, at the same time I would not carry one just in case, as I think they do more harm than good.

Wow, I'm amazed people actually carry guns as part of their cycling equipment. I've never done that before when I went cycling. I've been cycling through forests before and I haven't gone through a posible threat. Well, since I live in Europe, there are also other rules about weapons and typically people don't have their own gun in case of any dangers happening in certain activities (at least, haven't met anyone that does yet). I don't know what the rules are in the US but if you guys think taking a pistol out with yourselves for safety reasons is a good idea then I'm not gonna put that down.

...since I live in Europe...

Europe?

You mean that place that has suffered through TWO world wars in addition to countless regional conflicts? The home of several genocides? Home to both terrorists and terrorism?

Nah. No reason to need a firearm while attending a concert in Paris. Or riding a train or subway. Or shopping in a market.

J/K Sort of. Europe is tame compared to many areas of Socialist America.

Heck, I've been riding bikes since I was a kid. I grew up in the hood and even then I never needed a gun to protect myself. The problem with guns is that most that think they know how to handle a guy are the most dangerous. Couple of articles the other day. Mother shot 27 year old daughter visiting from out of state. Heard footsteps, woke up bang, dead daughter.

Another was a kid that decided to ditch school. Crawled in through the basement, father shot hitting teen in neck, bang another dead person.

The only way to beat somebody on the bike with a gun is to draw first and ask questions later like the people in these stories. But then the dude approaching you might have only been wanting to ask you for a cigarette. Shoot him, ask questions later! But the dude who gets you is going to surprise you, not announce his attack.

Even though you grew up in the hood, everybody knew you and knew you belonged there so you didn't need a gun. I didn't grow up in the hood, but I lived near the hood. I routinely ran through the hood all the time and nobody ever bothered me. The gang members always used to speak to me. Once when I was running a marathon, I started running with this guy, and he said he had seen me running through his neighborhood. It's a small world, after all.

Your hood must be fluffy compared to ours.

We just had a pizza delivery guy eat a bullet, actually shot several times, over chump change.

...a dude shot several times in a park.

...some kid whacked out on LSD bust into a home and eat the glass from the window he broke...

http://www.newsnet5.com/news/local-...h-on-lsd-ate-glass-from-a-window-he-shattered

And you tell me it's safe to run around without a bazooka, two LAWS rockets and a sub-machinegun?

Sorry. My world is full to the brim with morons, drugaholics, criminals, rapists, child abductors, gang members that DO shoot your sorry ass just for being a target of opportunity, thieves, muggers and mentally deficient squids that are off their meds and ready to go off the reservation with the next voice they hear.

I don't live near the hood anymore. I live out in the sticks on a farm. I left that neighborhood for good back in 1987. What a shame because it was hard leaving the place you grew up. Things were a lot calmer back then. You hardly ever heard of a shooting. Now, that same town has a murder every day, it seems. Fluffy? Maybe once, but that was a long time ago.

I also have a farm. In the sticks. On a dirt road.

The area is full of thieves...you know they have cars these days and drive out from the big city in groups and with their gang banger buddies to do B&E's and home invasions? Theft ring after theft ring are broken up here and the goons put in prison...eventually.

We also have meth heads, crack heads and a wild heroine epidemic going on. Guess what that combination breeds. Home invasions. Burglary. Property crimes out the wazoo. Armed robbery. Murder. Opioid addiction and prescription drug abuse are at levels not seen since the 1970's and the criminal behavior and violence they perpetrate on society is evident in the reading of any of the local newspapers.

There's drugaholic pot growing operations out here and they drag in plenty of the criminal types. From petty crime to breeding criminals with rap sheets as long as your arm, they are involved and in it up to their necks.

The area is rife with illegal immigrants along with the crime they bring with them. They commit crimes getting here and it doesn't bother them to do everything from driving without a license or insurance to ripping off the citizens to committing murder and rape. And they bring in more drugs, more crime and help the drug cartels and gangs get established on new turf with new customers.

Our roads are travelled by every known type of thug, drug, druggie, career criminal and mental deficient just looking for an excuse to run amok. The very same roads I ride on. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to observe the types that are behind the wheel and figure out what they are up to.

Then there is the simple, stupid threats of everyday life from the moron road raging idiot, 'roid freaked out gym rats, the common drunks gone berserk, rabid and loose animals, trespassers intent on who knows what, etc.

Our LEO's are very good and they are my first call if and when I get the opportunity to get them to engage, but they can't be everywhere at once. The security for myself and my family is up to me. To believe anything else is delusion.

CLEVELAND - Bullets littered a basketball court just feet away from the Lonnie Burten Rec Center on Cleveland's east side after a man was shot just after 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The 20-year-old man was rushed to the hospital and at least a dozen shell casing markers spread out over the court near East 46th and Outhwaite Ave.

While detectives investigated, dozens of children ready to play their own basketball game inside the recreation center circled the crime scene.

"It's the wild, wild West," said Sharelle Underwood, a mother of four who grew up in the Outhwaite Homes, a part of the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority. "This violence has got to stop."

The victim was rushed to MetroHealth Medical Center with several gunshots. As of 11 p.m., he was in critical condition.

Europe.....Where young girls are expected to accept rape by Rapefugees and not even use pepper spray?

Them Yuropeans got themselves a fine new anti-rape protection film that edumacates their wimmenfolk on how to stop a rape.

Warning! The purse-swinging brutality may cause PTSD, so view this video away from small children and libtards!

Catchy little tune, but that's about it. I know this will keep the gang bangers away for sure.

Probably argument over a deflated ball.

I like this bike forum because I am among like-minded folks, here, unlike that "other" bike forum that I am a member .

The one that banned me?

I don't carry a firearm often while riding but when I do carry one, nobody knows. That is my choice. I did a long ride recently that entailed some night riding and in my hurry to get travelling to ther event, I mindlessly in a brainfart kind of way forgot my Sig P938 from my ISM safe and I just felt naked in a couple areas on the ride but I decided to ride slower and thus not alone. The pitbull at 230 miles almost got me and it was close but the adrenaline rush saved me but when riding with others, I don't need to outrun the dog. I just need to outrun a slower piece of meat.

In the middle of the night at a 24 H convenience store during a 1200 Km ride last year, a gang banger was asking us how much our bikes cost, where we were going, what roads we were taking, etc. He bends over to look at the interior of a velomobile and the firearm that had been printing now becomes visible hanging off his skinny ass and baggy pants dragging almost to his knee as he bent over. 24 inches of firepower. Looks like an HK MP5 or variant/clone/chinese garbage. Obviously a bad, bad dude. I tell the other rider to be careful because of the gun and he says he is not afraid. I was concerned. Just because the gang banger had a presumably illegal firearm did not mean he intended us harm but his questions had me more than suspicious and had me wishing for more than 6 + 1. Maybe just old and weak. Maybe wise.

I don't know which site, but it's probably the one I'm a member of. My membership there is on a tenuous thread since I have already been visited by a moderator. There are several, who hang together and attack anyone they don't like. Get real. This is a cycling forum with like-minded individuals, how can you go wrong, but if you do something they don't like, you're gone. I remember seeing a thread about snooty riders, how about snooty discussion sites?

My team was on a training ride in broad daylight when one of these kids sprinted out in the road to take me down. I outmaneuvered him and sprinted away. Then once when I was stopped at the local country store, I had a fat woman ask me if she could ride my bike. When I said no, she got mad. That's one of the reasons why I go self-contained on long solo rides. I am afraid to go in a store and leave my bike unattended.

I have been very fortunate (hard working) in life not to have to be overly worried about property. But if someone wants to take my bike, they take it. I'm not defending property even if it is decked out in Campy or Dura ACE. Driving me off the road and repeatedly coming back to run me off or throwing beer bottles at me is a different story. I have had several of these incidents and they caught my attention and a couple incidents were frightening. I ride on the least traveled, country roads just for this reason. Overall lower risks.

That's what I normally do. The roads I travel on are only used by the people, who live out there. We all hope we don't run into some idiot like that guy in Australia, but you never know.

It was probably a $450-$500 AKM (AK-47 modernized) pistol...a short-barrel, no buttstock version of the AKM rifle/carbine. I can't imagine a gang banger forking over $7500 for a semi-auto H&K or even an MP5 clone.

Don't get me started. I'm a member of a couple other cycling web sites, but I rarely bother posting on them. They are run by morons. This site is the most free I have found.

I am a moderator on a couple of firearm forums and an admin on one. While the firearms world can also have idiots running a forum (Hint: SIG, H&K and thehighroad) or moderating the boards, most are pretty fair when it comes to moderation.

I have witnessed the idiocy over on BikeForums and the CN's forum is spastic with retarded moderation. Megalomanics for moderators on both of those sites.
