How long for a Brompton?

I have just been told that there are problems with supplies at the
Brompton mongers, and that the bike ordered last November through the
Cycle2Work scheme will not be available for collection until the end of
February.

What's going on?

Sounds pretty rubbish to me. When I bought mine, I just walked into a shop

I think Brompton got rather swamped with demand after 7/7, but that
*was* 6 months ago.

They got bored and are now offering 35000 (or was it 100000?) different
permutations of Brompton. If they build these versions in series and in
a fixed order it might be a while before your version comes up 😉

Did you order something fancy, like the pink Ti a customer picked up
whilst I was there.

If the shop has what you want in stock, fine, otherwise it'll take
time because Brompton are on the verge of having to beat off new
customers with [censored] sticks. Even before 7/7 they were selling
everything they could build with no problems, AFAICT. Bought mine
a while ago now, and wanting something not /quite/ standard (yellow
paint and the the 18% gear reduction) I had to wait rather more
than half an hour (can't remember how long, but it was weeks, not
minutes).

When I went around the very informative factory on the much enjoyed
CycleShow tour, it was said that Brompton would like to get into the
position where *all* their bikes were built to order, with very few
available out in the retailers, and those being mainly as sample models.

Admirable, I'm sure. Minimises the cost of all that stock. But three

Help me, Mrs. Medleycott, I don't know what to do. I've only got three
bullets and there's four of Mötley Crüe.

Try Warlands they might have one in stock. Seatpost switch is a dealer
job, as is pannier fitment. It could be the Brookes saddle that is the
rate determining step. I collected my Black (then) L3 off the peg a
couple of years back, they swapped post and reduced the gearing at the
same time, so I am suprised.

of Bromptons.
