I think most legendary might be little Hans Brinker, or captain van der
Decken.
Legendary does not mean nonexistent.

The program is modelled after the BBC's "Great Britons"
http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/programmes/greatbritons.shtml So what
should we call it? Betherlanders? Oranje Bovenste? In Germany they
called it Unsere Besten, to avoid having to include [censored] in "Größten
Deutschen".
If we are going to follow the examples set by the UK and Germany, Drees will
be chosen. Although I'd choose him over Adenauer any day, I'm still
convinced some persons in the top ten deserve the 'award' better.

I'm reasonably satisfied with the inclusion of Erasmus, Van Gogh, Willem
de Zwijger, Rembrandt and De Ruyter (famous for his hagelslag) in the
top 10. Of course, it lacks Huygens, Thorbecke, Lorentz, Vondel and..
erm.. Zoetemelk.
Did you see the bit of Wim Kan? "Zowel in de politiek als het wielrennen
geldt: Joop is een goede tweede!" (useless to translate). Van Moorsel is the
Netherlands' greatest cyclist ever, in spite of the somewhat Armstrongian
ambiance surrounding her. But apart from Cruyff and our national Voldemort,
the top 10 looks OK. Shame that Aletta Jacobs just fell short of 10th place.
Jonathan.
