This morning, in two separate instances, professional acquaintances of mine
who know that I follow bike racing (they don't except for the general press
as to the Tour) told me they saw the ESPN piece on Sunday morning about the
allegations against Armstrong. Both were shocked and said they had little
doubt that Armstrong isn't clean. I asked why and both pointed to failure
of the two women to simply say that Armstrong told the physician "No" to the
question posed to him. Both found the statements of O'Reilly compelling,
particularly her statement that Armstrong told her that she now knew enough
to bring him down. One of the two also said that if Armstrong did indeed
call the physician to threaten him with legal action to keep what he knew
about Postal quiet, that he considered that a damning admission of
culpability by Armstrong.
I found it interesting that neither of them mentioned Lemond at all.
Anyone else had any feedback from non-cycling friends and/or acquaintances?
