Pretty fast. Like a dog.

My wife constantly tells me to slow down. Sometimes, this drives me
crazy. On the other hand, one reason I got heavy was that I ate so fast
that I never let my stomach catch up. You can eat a lot of pasta, very
quickly!

If there is a way too fast, that implies a proper speed. Any guidance?
I suspect I'm too fast, but I don't have a baseline to work from.

There are various ways to deal with eating fast....put smaller portions on
your plate and take a break between servings, is one example. You eat at the
same pace, but you put a break between eating so you can let the brain and
stomach talk. Or, as some suggest, you put the fold down between bites or
talk more while eating. In the end, though, you've got to want to eat less
for anything to work.
Dogs eat fast and it doesn't necessarily bother their weight. While we
aren't dogs, I would think that if they can do it so can we.
While I do think eating slowly probably helps, I also think it's hard to ram
too many changes down one person's mindset. Just eating less & exercising
more while doing LC is probably more than most people can handle.

I read somawhere that a meal shouldn't last less than 20 minutes. Ever.
If you feel a bit tired after a meal: you went to fast.
I also read that we should never eat while doing something else (that is
watching tv for instance).
For the same meal, ou'll find that it will take much longer to eat when
your'not in front of tv.
Last thing, I try and chaw each mouthfull as long as I can. It really
works.
In the end, there are days where I get the sensation I would never have
got fat in the first place if I had not eaten so fast.

At a full-size meal, I eat very fast. Keep your hands and fingers away.
However, on my diet routine, I eat no large meals. Each snack sized portion
is followed by about ten minutes of waiting. If after 10 minutes, I still
want more, I go back to the kitchen. 95%+ of the time, by ten minutes after
3/4 of an ounce of cheese, I won't be interested in more food. I should
note that in that 1st 5 minutes I may feel like I want more food.

Well, when I watch people eat who are thin (say, my mother; my wife's
mother), they take quite a long time to eat much less than what I do. For
instance, my mother can take 30 minutes to eat something that took me two
minutes to eat. Granted, my leg weighs more than her, but when I try to
slow down how fast I eat, it really does help.

Yeah, but they also get measured portions and way, way more exercise than
I do. I see your point, though.

Well, I've tried to incorporate some things that have helped me. For
instance, I now rarely eat my entire meal when I dine out. I typically
take half of it home. I'm also trying to pace myself when I eat, although
I've found it somewhat harder than it appears. It's easy to say, "slow
down", and much harder to do so! All these things help, I think. If I
could save 100 calories at dinner because I slowed my eating, then that's
a lot over the long haul.

Whatever pleases me.

That's about the only thing I do right. I'm always last to finish
although I usually eat the same amount as everyone else.
The skinny one became skinny by making a rule of no seconds after
finishing a reasonable portion, although the stomach was screaming
more.
