1. When I listen to the tour I feel like a wimp. On flat ground no tail wind and no draft I can only go 27 m.p.h. I'm new to biking 47 years old but I can't see how I could ever go much faster. How fast can you go?

I never clocked myself but I guess around 40 miles an hour.

3. 29.9mph on flat ground, with a 30lb beast of a road bike

4. 33mph is my record on flats with no wind. I didn't stay there for long hehe.

5. All Flats no wind no draft --

32.9 mph 2003 Cervelo Soloist Team Ksyrium SLs Dura Ace 9 (17.4 lbs)
31.1 mph 2005 Kestrel Talon Eurus Ultegra 9 (19.03 lbs)
30.5 mph 2002 Giant TCR Aero 2 (20.4 lbs)
29.8 mph 2004.5 Giant OCR 1 with 2 Jandd panniers (29 lbs total)
27.6 mph Pacific MTN Bike with XT components and 2 Jandd panniers

2006 Raleigh Prestige with Ritchey Protocol 1350 g wheels Ultegra 10 - ?? mph
weighs 16.8 lbs and it's fast but I just got 109 miles on it.

6. What are we talking about here? Like, how fast for a second? 10 seconds? Half an hour? Four and a half hours?

7. Looks like top attainable speed to me.

8. My ride to work is 5.5 miles...I average about 18 mph...Takes me about 18 min.
My top speed is 39.6 mph. (Downhill 😉) But my top speed on flats is about 30 mph.
My round trip average speed falls to 15.5 mph. I live on top a hill (1/2 mile Climb @ 8% average Grade)

Just for the record...I do it on a '96-'97 Gary Fisher Kiatia MTB. 😄

Oh, well in that case, a quick review of my last few Polar files shows some speeds of 33mph in some flat, wind-free sections I know, where I like to see if I can pass cars. A 35mph or two is probably floating around in some older ride files.

How long is a piece of string

14. 103mph - 1993 1.4 Vauxhall Astra Merit - M6, lake district

15. 76 kph downhill on a chinese road bike branded "Open Road" with steel-chrome plated wheels and tires from Wal Mart. Now that I ride a "real" road bike, I still don't understand what I was thinking...

16. 35 mph, trying to catch a car at the next red light after they spit at me. he ran the red, i had to clean loogie off my wheelset than night.

17. On flat ground, no wind, somewhere between 32-34mph, but I can't stay there for long. Maybe 20 seconds. Professional TT riders can do that for an hour...

Equipment - 98 Trek Y-Foil frame (CF), Zipp 404 wheelset in tubie.

And don't let age slow you up. I'm 49, been cycling heavy for about the last three years. I know at least three women in their mid 50's that can trounce me on distance.

18. I used to try to keep up with my age - bike as fast as I am old.
I'm convinced I'll be able to keep attaining this as a goal as long as I:

1. Keep pushing myself year in and year out to get stronger and faster
2. Keep manage the units of measure carefully
19. I can go as fast as my legs will carry me..........do I win?
