Reading Lance Armstrongs book " Lance Armstrongs Performance Book, 7 weeks to the Perfect Ride. One section says to test your fitness level, was to mark out a 3 mile course, which is 4.8km's. Standing start, with pretty flat track, and no wind. If you can do it in under 8 minutes your are very good, Advanced rider. Over 8 but less than 10 is intermediate. Over 10 minutes is a recreational rider.
Is this a good guide, it took me 9 minutes 10 seconds, and I think I am not that good. Is this a good guide ? Cheers, Timmy

well, if my math is correct... Sub 8 minutes is 36kph+ 8-10 minutes is 36kp-28.8kph and obviously 10+ minutes is over under 28.8kph I woulda thawt someone who is 'advanced would be capable of over 45kph on flat-no-wind conditions (can someone give me a melways ref of this mythical place? 🙂 )

which is the australian tt website you will get times and average speeds for different distances and courses. Check out some of the results over the past few races and you will get an idea of what level you are at. hey also have the standard times for different age groups.
do you have a TT comp in your area?
For reference, on a 17k course with rolling hills i average around 40kph and i generally race A grade in road races and crits. My name is byron davy is you want to check some other course times for references.
