Is the trend of narrow bars just a fashion statement with no real performance benefit or is there some science behind it. I mean, intuitively, wouldnt wider bars provide more stability since they give you a lower center of gravity and more control over the bike. Yet every cycling forum and blog seems to be touting the benefits of narrow bars as if theyre the only way to go. Whats the deal with this. Are all these cycling experts just drinking the same Kool-Aid or is there something Im missing. Can someone explain to me why narrow bars are supposedly better when it comes to stability and balance. Dont just give me the standard response about how narrow bars improve aerodynamics and reduce wind resistance. Ive heard that before and Im not convinced. Give me some real evidence and data to back up your claims.
