How do you weigh a bicycle?

I use the atomic scales at the NASA propulsion labs. But if they're really busy or something I use a digital bathroom scale. 😄

Another option for the bathroom scale at home is to place it under one wheel at a time, then add the total. The local builder and LBS have digital scales here. You hang the bike (or part) on the hook, and see the readout.

Normally to get a measurement that's worthy of posting on weight weenies, or if you're really interested in precision, find an LBS w/a digital scale as the OP suggested. I have to confess, I've weighed most of my bikes on the bathroom scale...why not...I can say my 25 lb and 30 lb 2 and 3 year olds weigh w/in one lb or so difference btwn the doctors office scale and the bathroom scale. Good nuff for me! 🙄

the "jump on the scales" trick ain't accurate enough; it's too easy to be out by a pound, or so. You may notice if you lean slightly back or forward, the weight reading will change.

The last time I built a bike, I borrowed some very expensive scales (the type they use at university bio labs), and weighed EVERY COMPONENT -- even the cables and handle bar tape!!😄

However, if you don't feel like pulling your bike to bits, just add up everything from the Weight Weenies listings: 😉

How could someone have so little to do that they have time to put such a site together.

If you're going to go to that much trouble you have to take into account gravity variations around the globe and with altitude, not to mention the lower air densities at altitude.

Oh, and don't forget the mass of grease and other lubes. 😉

Digital bathroom scale to 100gms accuracy is good enough for me.

However, when it comes to Whales, I send my friends to the

Whale Weigh Station. 😄
