In the long stages, the peloton sometimes pulls over and gives everyone a chance to [censored] in the bushes for a few seconds. If a rider has to [censored] at any other time, he will probably slip off the back of the peloton, stop on the side of the road, take a [censored], and catch back up to the bunch - this should be a fairly easy task most of the time because the bunch is not moving at an uncatchable speed. If the rider has to go at a more critical point in the race, he will move to a side of the road and make sure nobody is immediately behind him, try to untuck it, and [censored] the left side of the bike (so [censored] doesn't get all over the sprockets and chain and spray everywhere). -

What?? No, the peloton does not pull over for a group pee break. Could you imagine the effort to coordinate a dozen teams pulling over at the same time. They would even have to coordinate with the various networks to arrange for them to take a commercial break simultaneously.

I guess you didn't watch the whole tour. The peloton does sometimes pull over, but normally it's before the TV cameras begin to air the coverage. We only see the last couple hours of what are normally 6 hour races. However, there was one time when the entire peloton pulled over while the TV cameras were rolling. The TV cameras showed the entire peloton stop, people get off their bikes, then while everyone [censored] in the bushes, the cameras panned out to the scenery around them. The entire process took less than a minute, but it DOES happen. As far as coordination goes, the peloton can communicate this information very easily down through the bunch. -

Yes. They do.
A rider on the front will shout or signal during the tranquilo part of a race and he'll pull over for a [censored]. Anyone else who needs to go does the same thing.
TV and press photographers have a gentlemen's agreement with the riders not to film or photograph it. -

This one depends on how bad they want to win the race. -

nope, you're right... never happens...
what are you talking about it always happens...
also on a straight stretch riders can get a team mate to push on their back as they roll up one leg of their shorts, wip it out and pee away..
at the world champs in hamilton 2003... [censored] alley was on the downhill (which was also the major climb.. they went up and down)... it was right in front of most of the spectators, but they could face away from everyone towards a rock face.. they could just coast there, roll up their shorts leg and go at it.. so much pissing happened in this section that the road was visibly soaked... it was the other side of a 4 lane road so many of the uninitiated had had no idea what was happening right in front of them... lol.. you could hear why are they riding like that?

here's a pick of Armstrong using one of the other techniques... the guy helping him isn't even a team mate..
