  1. Today I made hot cross buns using a recipe I found on the Internet,
    mixed in the breadmaker.

    Here's the recipe

and here's a pic of the finished buns.

    Mmmmmm Hot Cross Buns.
My wife just left for Good Friday Services. She is in the choir. I don't
do the church thing, but I suppose that it would be in bad taste to call
the church in the middle of the Goof Friday Service and leave a message
for her to pick up some hot cross buns at the bakery on her way home.

Well, that's a start. Youi've got until Easter to put the white
frosting cross on the top. -aem

Frosting o a hot cross bun? That is only for the cheap imitations.

I don't think so. There was a Russian Orthodox cathedral on the main
street in the small town where I grew up. On Russian Easter the
congregation would parade around the cathedral. After the service they
would serve hot cross buns to everybody that showed up. Those all had
white frosting crosses. That's my only experience with them, but it
was certainly real, not imitation.... -aem

I'm jealous 🙁 I REALLY miss hot cross buns... only I'm allergic
(sensitive?) to fresh yeast so I can't make them myself! Yeast dough
turns my skin all red and itchy if I try to do anything with it before
    it's cooked.

They look absolutely fantastic! I'm afraid I've never made hot cross
buns, but at this time of year we fell it our duty to sample the output
of all the excellent bakers and cakeshops around here. Hot cross buns
for breakfast, lunch and tea! As is when fresh and toasted on the second
    day.

You mean you can't get hot cross buns in Florida? Have you thought of
wearing surgical gloves while handling the dough?

Um, I know I didn't do a good job, but can't you see they already have
crosses on? We don't do frosting crosses here. They're made of a flour

I've never seen hot cross buns with frosting crosses, either. The times
I've tried making the buns I've had trouble with the crosses - the
recipes all say to pipe the crosses on with the flour and water paste,
but my paste is never cooperative when it comes to piping! Did you have
trouble with yours, or do you have a secret? I thought I might whip up a
batch for tomorrow as I have visitors coming. Your buns look yummy, by
    the way.

Poor thing, he must not know that your method using the flour/water paste
is the traditional method. Good job, Kathy! It's not uncommon for
bakeries in the US to use frosting for the crosses, but it's not the
    original method.
