I ran a 5k in 90 degree heat and got a 22:47, which is a bit
disappointing. Does anyone know how to convert this to a
time at a normal temp? (i.e. at 60 degrees)

did compared to previous attempts at the same course.One rule of thumb is 1 second per mile per degree above 60,
but I'm not sure how applicable this is to such a short race
(though it does hold pretty well for marathon/half
marathon).I'd forget about trying to run for time in the summer. You
simply won't run very fast over distances. I like to either
focus on competitive goals -- trying to improve my place, or
focus on distances where it doesn't matter so much (e.g. 1
mile) or just focus on training and try to peak in the fall
when you'll be able to run faster times.Cheers,

I dunno, I just say it was hot and it slowed me down. Ask
the regular racers what % it slowed them down. I treat a hot
race as I would a hilly course, with an asterisk.My PR for a marathon in 94 degree heat is 2:53, got a 2:42
at 78 degrees, and 2:37 at 45 degrees. (temps are at the

something like 40F? I'm just starting to get heat acclimated
to 60 - and that's cuz I waited and ran later in the day in
the shade (rather than blistering sun at 65) 😉Point being that one has to take the degree of heat
acclimation into account plus many other variables.I agree that running one at 60 is the best way.

2:37 + (94-60) * 26.2 = 2:37 + 891 = 2:51:51
3:37 + (78-60) * 26.2 = 2:37 + 472 = 2:44:52I think it's difficult to do much more than mark it with
an asterisk, but the rule of thumb can help adjust pace
in advance instead of "discovering" the heat at the
halfway mark and realising the finish is still just over

I think you guys are definitely right about humidity being
important. Could someone give me a quick idea of how
humidity is measured though? I've got this Weatherbug
program that says the humidity now is 65% - what does that
mean? Is that high -

the sun made me feel like it was 70. Now I mostly run at

the body can't properly cool off if its humid too humid. I
love to run when its low 60s with low humidity, though
faster times come when its about 50. I hate humidity
whatever the temperature really. For cycling 75-80 is
perfect. Last summer on a really humid day in the mid 80's I
lost 8 pounds in a 2 hour training run, even with drinking

that when I was 25 pounds heavier and running the same long
runs, the heat/humidity played a big factor in how I felt
and how fast I was able to run. Now, it still impacts my
performance, but not to the same degree. Maybe we should

winter and was just having a hey day when it warmed up to
20-40F (reduced risk of frostbite, camelback less likely to
