    Horner could have made more money at Superweek than the $1000 he made
    at the Tour. 5 kids need to eat, ya know.

    Split 9 riders, plus wrenches and other staff.

    Tour prizemoney
    Discovery Channel has earned over half a million euro in the Tour de
    France (€545,640), of which €400,000 was the prize for the overall
    winner Lance Armstrong. Last year they earned a little more:
    €578.842.

    Euskaltel only managed to collect €9.310 in prize money. If one knows
    it's a common rule to give 10% of the earnings to the staff, the riders
    earned a meagre 931 euro each for three weeks of hard labour.

    I'll agree with one thing about the Tour --
    It's extremely minor league when it comes down to the official monetary
    prizes.
    Pretty much chump change after 3+ weeks of intense efforts, that does
    nothing to elevate the sport. The French are superb about putting on
    the race but are as cheap as a Scotsman when it comes to paying and
    sharing rewards.

    Maybe that's why Rabobank employs the easily had and not dear Three
    Stooges for the team cars and wrenches where instead Subway pro staff
    would be a vast improvement for the same price?

    Enough already with the Rabo bashing. Yes, it didn't go perfect. No, the

    Dumbasses: (Note that I have never used that term as a salutation
    before, so give it the weight it deserves.)

    WHO CARES if the prize list is thin? This is a TEAM SPORT with TEAM
    SPONSORS and TEAM VEHICLES and TEAM MECHANICS. Guess who pays for
    travel expenses? The TEAM. Guess who pays these guys a salary? The
    TEAM. This is not golf or tennis where all expenses come out of the
    players' tournament winnings.

    Magilla Gorilla whined about this [censored] last spring after Hincapie won
    Kuurne Bruxelles Kuurne and earned (gross) probably about 3,000 euros

    [censored] Ken have you looked at their unemployment rate and economy? No
    chance for any improvement any time soon as far as I can see. They
    can't afford the socialist state they've created in the face of global
    competition, and the freeloaders aren't going to give up any of the
    benefits they've been handed. Then there's all the conflicts with the
    EU over the massive subsidies.
    Chirac has turned France into a disaster.
