  1. Hit Hartshorne in the Atlantic Highlands, NJ on Sunday. Rode a couple
hours. It was my first time on dirt in a month. I was super tentative
at first. One early biff set my head correct.
Still can't clean that frking climb on Laurel Ridge, but rolled easy
with 'Stone Free' in my head and a big grin on my mug most of the ride.
Hartshorne is twisty and rooty with lots of little drops. Perfect JRA
    stuff.
In the back section I rode upon three giggling girls, maybe 18 or 19,
wearing bikinis. "You lost?" I asked. "Nice butt!" one called after me.
It was like... oh, never mind.
Finished up at the Rocky Point bunkers, zipped down Portland Road to
Sandy Hook beach. Packed the bike in the trunk, switcherood into swim
trunks under a towel, found my girlie and we hit the water. After a
sweaty ride, nothing like the big, blue, scrotum-tightening sea.
Got in the car, stopped at a Stewarts for some root beer and greasy
    chizzow.
Baby, it was good to get out of the city.

Definately a fun place, for Jersey. A lot hillier than most people think.

Never mind? I think my ride would have ended there.

What? You didn't use the nude beach? I can't swim in Sandy Hook
knowing what is in that water. I've got a Marine Biologist friend who
is stationed there. You better shower with bleach.

Would have been White Castle for me (Freehold on the way back).

    Got some approximate coordinates?

In GoogleEarth, I see a pretty big area area on the mainland opposite The Hook -
but had always assumed it was private/restricted. Looks like a nice ridge
    trail runs through it e.g. 40.394311? -73.990074?

That's it. It's Hartshorne and Huber Woods and I think it is officially
    Atlantic Highlands State Park.

No. Philly. About 1:45 - and it's gotta be on a day where there's:

    - No need to serve my clients

    - Not enough wind to windsurf... -)

    Pete,

Make it a combo day. Bring the bike and the board. You can bike the
trails and then board in the bay. It's all right there.

The JAR club ride is there on 9/25.

So, when are you coming to Sprain Ridge with us? We were there about 2 weeks
ago but Jim's bike disintegrated in the middle of the ride so we had to
    abandon.

Gotcha. Would have been a tight fit for me too.
For the record -- plenty of windsurfing in the area.

    Story?

I am pretty sure Jim wrote an RR about it. We were about half way through
the ride when we hit a dh section of the trail. We both bombed down it, Jim
did a drop off a rooty, rocky section...he wound up blowing up the tube in
his front tire after landing and then also found out that his front brake
literally disintegrated. We took the wheel off to look at what was wrong
with the brake (an Avid mechanical) and the magnets that hold the pads in
the caliper had been shredded into dust particles. The brakes are
non-functional without those magnets to hold the pads. We still don't
understand how that could have happened, the brakes and pads were really not
that old and were rarely used in wet conditions. Avid will be receiving a
    call from us.

I may need some time getting my meager technical skills back up to
mediocre. All this GRS made me into a sissy. Hopefully next week's
    Santa Fe trip will help.

Yes, immediately after posting I recalled seeing something about it. Thanks
for the refresher version, anyway 🙂

Two MIT students meet on campus.

"Hey, nice bike!" says the first student. "Where did you get it?"

"Well," says the second, "I was just walking along minding my own
business, and this beautiful girl rides up on a bike, takes off all her
clothes and says 'You can have whatever you like!'"

"Good thinking," says the first student. "Her clothes wouldn't have fit
    you."
