Anyone ever make there own carb gel. As it is mostly brown rice syrup and flavor it seem rather easy.๐

how would you carry it on a ride?

If I send you $20 will you delete this thread and go buy some gel from the store? :p
Seriously, I agree, how would you carry it?

You would probably carry it in a gel flask:

But if you really think that an ounce and a half of sugar is worth more than a dollar because of the shiny foil wrapper, continue to flame away. -

Relax. Too many people on this board really don't know what to make of a joke. But since you brought it up, yea, an ounce and a half of sugar is in fact worth more than a dollar. I know this because that is the accepted price for that product in the marketplace. If it were not worth a dollar people would not pay for it and the price would go down. Does it cost a dollar to make? Nope. But then I would have to talk about profit margins and I don't feel like that.

I've been experimenting with flour and condensed milk for a replacement for energy bars but I haven't even thought about energy gels.
Personally I think they are a bit of a rip off. If other people are prepared to spend that kind of money on a bit of sugar, good for them. I'll just suffer more and save up for a better bike!

There is more about a gel pack than sugar and everyone knows that. I find it funny when people claim they are just injesting sugar.
Gu Orange Burst (I had one in my bag)
Sodium (NOT SUGAR) 45g
Potassium (ALSO NOT SUGAR) 35g
Total Carb (STILL NOT SUGAR) 25g
Sugar (Actual sugar) 3gHey, if you want to make your own and you find that fun, I say go for it! But it is not as simple as just sugar as some have said. For the guy that wants to eat flour and condensed milk. Well, I am not sure how that is going to taste, but can you let us know? I think I might stick with a Cliff Bar. ๐
Kudos to the first guy for making a carb gel and not a sugar pack by the way.

Not too bad actually. Just mix one to one (by weight), roll into sticks and bake for 15 min. They are not sticky and don't get soft in the sun. A 30g stick is roughly:3g protien
19g total carbs
2g fat
8g simple sugars
140 mg sodium.Dried fruit is high in potassium and carbs, so a little fruit mix thrown in will sort that out. Hmm, possibilities, methinks.
BTW: I hope those sodium and potassium numbers are mg otherwise that thing will kill you!
