I've been waking up at 5:30am every morning 5 days a week for the past two years to go to the gym, with small breaks every 3 months or so. I just bought my first home and now have some room to set up my own home gym. I am used to the equipment at the club and the free weight equipment is good and strong.
Now that I'm setting up my own home gym the first things I am going to be getting is a full or half cage, Bench, Barbell and a bunch of weight. I have been looking around at a umber of different products. I think I will be purchasing a Keys Fitness half cage since it seems sturdy and I like it's size. My second thing is the Bench though. I've seen benches for $500 and $800 but I've seen them at $130 too? I was actually looking at an Ironman Incline/Flat/Decline bench this morning with a preacher curl setup and it seemed decent. It felt sturdy (though it was a little light in comparison to the fitness club benches).
My question is this? What is the difference between the benches? i.e. The ironman seemed sturdy, made from 14gauge steel, etc etc etc and it seemed like a good value. Am I kidding myself? What is the difference between the benches at different price points for home use?

Well, I could be wrong, but if you're, say, a 250 lb man who sometimes maxes out, at, say, 500 lbs, what the bench is made of might make a slight difference in stability/performance. Then again, maybe I'm wrong though and it doesn't really matter.

I weigh around 190lbs and my max bench is just under 250lbs or so. Not sure if this helps an other posts?

If you are getting a half cage, you can bench in there. You don't need a bench with the liftoffs on it. Get an adjustable bench and use it in the cage. That way you can set the safeties so if you miss a bench, you don't get stuck. I do it this way as well as a lot of other lifters.
I've got the Ironman bench. It does the job, but I'm sure there are better out there. It's a little uncomfortable in the decline position and I wouldn't trust it with more than the 2-50 lb dumbells I use on it. Don't think it would hold up all that steady at a full press station.
