Oh yes, that reminds me of a tip I keep meaning to
    post for Guy.

I would say the most important thing to practice at this
stage is falling off forwards and landing on your feet.
Start by standing still on the unicycle, then dismounting to
the front. Then try pedalling half a revolution and
dismounting to the front. Then a full revolution and a
forward dismount. Build up from there.

As long as you dismount to the front, you're not likely to
hurt yourself. And to ride forwards you need to keep your
centre of gravity slightly forward of the axle, so if you
fall off to the front then you know you're throwing your
    weight in the right direction.

When I went to see the man with the metophorical bricks, I
think he used real ones. Six months on, and I'm still not
fully recovered (actualy , won't but I am hoping that the
discomfort will go away soon🙁 Still, it's a good excuse for
    getting a recumbent 🙂

New unicycle arrived today. I took to recumbents instantly
    - this is a slightly different matter!

    I'll recommed unicyclist.comforums which has a
very active web forum for unicyclists (experienced and
aspiring/perspiring). It is mirrored to (and mirrors) a
mailing list and rec.sport.unicycling, but the links tend to
    be a bit fragile.

Funny thing is, thi was there second attempt, and so far

indeed, however, much as it sticks in the throat, she
might have a point about unicycling, and maybe I;ll have

Having said that I've now had mine for about 12 years and
although only used occationly, I still cannot get on the
    bloody thing without support :o(

How are you trying? I tried teh 'approved' method (position
wheel in front of you, pedals at 45 degrees, stand on low
pedal and roll it back into an idle then away) for a long
    time and never really cracked
it. Then I tried the 'quick' method whereby you start with
the wheel and pedals in teh same position, put foot on
low pedal then spring from the foot on teh ground up
and onto teh saddle and immediately into forward
riding, without any rolling backwards of teh wheel.
Once I'd got that method sorted reliably, I fopund teh
roll-back-into-idle came quite easily, but the quick
method is quicker anyway, so I generally use that.

You may be interested in this message that's just been
posted on rec.sport.unicycling. It'll be bugger all use to
you though, since the advice will only help someone who's a
reasonably competent unicyclist to start with:

    David Stone said:

I just wanted to let all my 'fellow' riders know that
riding right after a vasectomy is no problem, but you have
    to take precautions.

    1. Lower the seat a tad. That puts less pressure on the
    scrotal area.
    2. Push the seat forward while riding so that your
buttocks take most of the pressure off that scrotal
    area.
    3. Alternate between seat-forward riding and stand-up
riding (where your butt is hardly on the seat). The
latter is tiring, but it really minimizes seat
    pressure.
    4. Avoid big curbs, both up and down (for the same
reason). Small curbs (like 3"😉 are ok, but for going up
small curbs I'd suggest hopping rather than riding.
    5. Tightie whities, but that's recommended by your
    urologist anyway.
    6. Try idling and then a short ride initially. If the pain
isn't worse than regular walking, you're probably fine.
Check up on yourself after ten minutes.
    7. I'd suggest a small wheel (20"😉 rather than a larger
size in case there is a sudden need to dismount.
Smaller wheels have the disadvantage of forcing more
revolutions and feeling bumps more, however, so it's a
bit of a toss-up. The jury is out on this one.
    8. You defintely want a soft seat. Foam is fine (tho a
tough foam, like in the KH seat, may not be ideal).
Viscount, Torker, and new (hard) Schwinn seats are
    right out.

Following these morsels of advice will help keep the
    stitches from undoing.

    Best of luck!
