1. I won't hide the fact that I hate climbs, so I figured that I'd have to start training mostly on climbs so that I could ride better. I get this idea that I'm going to climb Mt.Cheaha (highest point in Alabama). It's the closest mountain without going through Atlanta for me.

It was about 20mi from the beginning of the road to the very top, I did it in 2.1 hours with an average speed of 10 mph. I came across some other riders going the opposite direction. Unfortunately I did it alone since when I told my friends I was doing it they responded,” You’re out of your mind". I must have been when I said I'd do it. One thing about me and my riding is if I say I'm going to do it, I do it.

I climbed over 1,000ft and even survived being hit by a car's side view mirror on a flat, strait part of the rode with no traffic and riding very close to the white line.

There is a century that runs all the way from about 200ft above sea level to over 2,000 feet, I’ve only done the 47 mi portion but I have ridden the entire route in sections.

Well Done. Just keep punishing yourself up that mountain a few more times and it will only get easier. 🙂

  3. No, no no.... I don't think I'll do that again or at least not for a long time!

You already proved you can do it, now it's time to see if you can't beat your tijme. Besides, wasn't the coasting down a lot of fun!

  5. Hills make you stronger you'll be back and you will start to like it in that way.

  6. Yes yes yes. just do it. and do it again. and again. 😄

  7. Yeh hyperventilating with sweat dripping off your chin every second of the way. Nothing like it who would want to miss that.

  8. I dont like hills either, but I need to start riding them myself. I'm going to flagstaff this weekend to help in the arizona state road race. I'll be riding at about 7-8000 feet. We'll see if i make it back alive.

  9. I think I'll do it again... next year. It was a good ride, nice view but some of those hills on that road were evil! I did like how the road's rolling hills, eventhough it was going up a mountain. Now I have a upper respiratory infection that set in maybe an hour after the ride so I can't even ride a mile without falling over... but I'll try!

If you live anywhere near cheaha and haven't tried it, it's a pretty cool little ride with little traffic.
