Don't think they make cycling apparel, not sure if they're planning to - from what I read it sounded more like they saw it as an opportunity to market to outdoors-types (ie. cycling fans perhaps do other outdoor activities as well).

I'd bet they will.

Columbia has a strong presence here in Italy, even in large sporting retail chains (à la Decathlon). It is already a well recognised brand and I suspect that sponsoring a major team will further brand awareness here.

Just had to jump in here. I live in Portland, headquarters of Columbia Sportswear and of course Nike.

Columbia has a great reputation, mainly because it was founded by a woman! Her sons run the place now (I think). We wear Columbia for hiking, walking, camping, and generally hanging out in the NW.

Good deal then! Columbia sports wear will get a huge market in Europe now. One of the main reasons they sponsored. Huge profit for them!
