*Splutter* What about it? Ignoring the obvious flaw with the
Storey Arms... There's an ice cream van on the Rhigos mountain
road (at Craig y Llyn pull in) that sells tea, coffee etc as
well as icy scream. Spend enough time over the refreshment of
your choice and you may be lucky enough to see a red kite or
two; you'll almost certainly see buzzards and sparrowhawks
circling in search of elevenses(or twoses or fourses,
depending) - and of course there are always the smaller birds
hanging around for the chance of a dropped cone - *and* it's
higher up than any of the roads going over the Beacons except
perhaps the one leading to the Visitors' Centre. And when
you've had your cuppa or whatever at Craig y Llyn, drive
towards Treherbert and the Rhondda until you get a signal on
your phobile moan. That's the point where you ring me up to
see if I'm in. I've always got crash space here for visitors
somewhere amidst the chaos - but please bring your own
sleeping bag.

Tea at Craig y Llyn? I wish! When I was up there last October there
was no-one but us and a couple of miserable-looking cyclists about in
torrential sleet & gale force winds! I could have done with a nice
cuppa!

Slightly off topic, but we're doing the county tops and have so far
had pubs at the highest point of two counties (well, unitary
authorities actually) - Halton and Sefton. The one at Halton was
pretty impressive being in a castle, but was unfortunately smart dress
only (no scruffy hikers then...). Pictures are here:

I know what you mean though - that van's there most of the
time, but when you really need something warming there he
isn't.
