Nah. Most folks are eating what they're told is right, but it's all wrong.
The tendency toward dyslipidemia may be inherited, but that doesn't mean that the right diet won't fix it for most folks.
Well, then you would have do a proper experiment, controlling for all potentially relevant factors, which won't be easy or cheap. On the other hand, you can just do some research and you'll see that only oxidized LDL is going to cause problems, not cholesterol. It's explained on my free site:

If you search for "familial hypercholesterolaemia" you'll find some. The two broad defects are insufficient cell surface LDL receptors or a defect in the apolipoprotein which binds to the LDL receptor. Either way the LDL stays in the blood so levels increase over time. Rats with an apolipoprotein disorder they will get high blood cholesterol even on a fat-free diet.

There is also familial combined hyperlipidemia and familial hypertriglyceridemia. There are also people who have inherited a mutation that causes very low HDL.
There are people with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (heFH) who do not have an LDL receptor or ApoB mutation. They are still discovering other mutations that cause the heFH phenotype (elevated LDL from birth, usually in the 200s). HeFH cannot be controlled with diet and exercise only.

Then there is the simple common sense that families tend to share food and diet and a bad diet throughout many generations will cause similar physical problems to all concerned.
Or consider that we genetically evolved with little or no refined carbs in the diet. We are genetically wired to not thrive on high refined-carb diets.
