  1. Hi all.. This is regarding people that have high chloresterol no matter what they eat. I would like
to know how can the body create chloresterol if the person only eats vegetables for a whole month..
Will it be possible to still have high chloresterol that way...and if so how? is the chloresterol
created from the body fat stored within the body? What are the magic ingredients that the liver
needs in order to create chloresterol?

I also have high chloresterol and am trying to go to extreme measures to avoid taking the statin
drugs.. And yes, even eating vegetables for a month..

    thanks alot, mike

Despite all that you might have heard about fat and cholesterol, cholesterol is actually synthetised
in liver from sugar as response to excess carbohydrates.

From what I have read, it is in fact unsure why saturated fat increases cholesterol - there is only
hypothesis that it *might* block metabolic pathways for cholesterol cleanup.... Monounsaturated
(olive oil) and polyunsaturated (generally vegetable oils) seem to lower LDL and increase HDL.

I believe that rather than this, you should consider eating things that seem to improve lipid
levels. Eating *only* veggies might help, but not that much, and might worsen other health condition
AFAIK. At least, eat them with lots of olive oil 🙂

Also, there seems to be an indication that weight loss alone can improve lipid profiles - and ther
is also indication that very low fat diet does not work as well after weight loss phase is over.

Try google to find possible supplements From what I have considered: oat bran, flaxseed, some
special teas (pu erh), chinese red yeast, olive oil, fat fishes... (some of these in fact are not
supposed to improve lipids, but they have other favorable effects).

    It is.

The liver is able to synthesize (make) it.

is the chloresterol created from the body fat stored within the body?

The liver is able to make it from acetyl-coA (which comes from the breakdown of carbs, fats,
    and/or protein).

    For the nitty-gritty biochemistry:

    Food.

If you are heavier than "ideal", that should also be addressed.

Only animals create cholesterol. Human beings are animals. It is natural for us to create
cholesterol, own bodies need it and our brains need it. Lowering cholesterol to the arbitrary levels
determined by pharmaceutical interests can be detrimental to your body. In fact, several recent
studies say that if you are over 60 and do not have cardiovascular disease a high cholesterol level
is an advantage to longevity, not a disadvantage. For more information on cholesterol read the
following websites. They will give you another side to the cholesterol issue. I am not saying they
are *right*, merely another, thoughtful point of view for those of us with familial
    hypercholesterolemia to consider.

It is also high in a type of carbohydrate that is not metabolized. That fiber helps with
    cholesterol control.

But a lot of that is fiber that cannot be metabolized and is very likely the cause of lowering lipid
    levels by oat bran.

OTOH, oatbran is supplement I decided to limit in favor of flaxseed, because flaxseed has more
fiber, less digestible carbs and also a lot of favorable fats (omega-3), so that it should reduce
inflamation levels too (as I understand the issue...).

  10. went up from around 210 to 260 on the low carb diet. my hdl has always been above 65.

(been taking 1 red rice yeast capsule for a few months and my TC is 192, hdl is 86, my ldl was
    154, now 96)

  11. Thanks alot for all the info guys and gals.. I have one last question on supplements.. How do you
feel on Milk Thistle? its suppose to clean out the liver.. I had high bilirubin for several years
and took the supplement for several months and my bilirubin went down alot..Do u think it will help
    with chloresterol too?

And Olive Oil capsules/softgels... I thought there would be a major nutrition company in the U.S.
that would be manufacturing these by now..and there isnt....from all the searching i have done..
Because i figured, i would much rather swallow the supplements then using it with food or taking a
tablespoon or 2 a day.. It tastes so nasty.. Maybe a milk thistle/olive oil softgel would be a
    perfect supplement.

I think you can get used to olive oil. I hated it too, 4 month ago (before going LC). Now I like it.

I think that you can first try it to fry vegetables, taste of hot olive oil goes well with taste of
most vegetables. Just fry some onion, add vegetables, mushrooms, garlic, spices... eh sorry, I
forgot I am not in alt.support.low-carb group now 🙂

Arthritis sufferers who are on medications of types and dosages that may negatively affect liver
function sometimes take milk thistle extract to reduce the potential impact. I haven't looked for or
read about clinical studies, but have seen many anecdotal posts that liver enzymes have normalized
    after beginning milk thistle extract.

I can't relate this to "cleaning out the liver," however, since I don't know what that term means.
