In article said:Well all good things must come to end - even temporarily. This weekend will be my last chance on
the bike for a while. I'm going under the knife Monday [eye surgery] and I'm not supposed to
engage in 'strenuous' exercise for 4 to 8 weeks. No cycling, no swimming, nothing but sitting on
the couch getting fat and lazy.
*sigh*
So how long does it take for muscles to atrophy?

IME, after a *brief* time away from the bike, my first subesquent ride is often surprisingly
stronger than how I'd thought it would be. After a number of weeks, I might lose some of my humble
version of "condition", but it comes back quickly after a few rides. It's certainly not a matter of
starting over from Square One.
So I don't think you need to worry about losing a huge amount of condition over a mere 4-8 weeks.
You'll just have an incentive to get back on the bike as soon as it's okay to do so. In the
meantime, take care and heal well.
cheers, Tom
