Hi, I have just started a low carb diet. After 2 years of low cal with some
success (2 years ago I was 266lbs I am now 200) I have lost motivation so I
have decided to try low carb. My question is how long does it take for
weight to start dropping off? I am looking to loose 21 lbs in 6 weeks
(before I go on holiday) can I expect to see weight loss within the first 2
weeks?
Thanks in advance

Thanks in advanceHi Tom, welcome to the group!
Yes, you SHOULD see some weight loss in the first two weeks -- probably
in the neighborhood of 10 lbs. The caveat is that most of that loss
will be water. If you go on vacation and start eating a lot of carbs,
you will gain a lot of it back, possibly even overnight. This is
because there are about 4-5 water molecules bound to each glycogen
module in the emergency fuel store in the liver. Once you stop feeding
yourself so many carbs, the body will turn to that emergency store of
energy for fuel, and at that time, the water is shed (be prepared to
spend a lot of time in the bathroom peeing like a racehorse for a couple
of days :-). Once THAT is used up, the body will then turn to dietary
and stored fat for fuel, and THAT is when the true FAT loss begins. A
loss of 1-2 lbs per week after the initial loss is considered GOOD.
Since you are a guy, you may lose a little more than that. The less weight you have to lose, the longer it takes to lose the
weight. The really spectacular initial weight losses on low carb (I've
heard people say they lost 20-30 lbs in 2-3 weeks) are generally seen
with morbidly obese people of 300-400 lbs. 21 lbs from your ideal
weight might not be feasible in 6 weeks, but you never know. You should
certainly should be able to make a sizable dent in it by then. In the
meantime, after the first week, you should find yourself feeling a surge
in energy and will probably feel markedly better than you have in a LONG
time; HOWEVER -- as the body adjusts from burning primarily carbs to
primarily fat, you might not feel so good. Just hang in there -- by day
4-5 you should start to feel GREAT!--

was typically low carb/low calorie plus a ton of exercise.--

This is very true and was my experience. I wasn't overweight when I
started LC, but at the top of the recommended range for my height, which
sounds like the OP's situation. I lost 6 pounds in the first two weeks.
Then it slowed down considerably and took me 5 months more to lose an
additional 18 for a total of 24 pounds. But I think he'll find that LC is
much easier to stick to than low-cal.Saffire said:

Don't even bother because you don't have what it takes.

So by that rationale you will have no mirrors in your house.

Obviously logic and rationale are not your strong points.

Please read the above and tell me if that makes ANY since at all. Is this
coming from a possibly coherent person? Astounding.I'm still fat because you have a personal problem? Namely inbreeding? That
macro needs to be tweaked if you wanna play more.--
