HHH & NYNY updates for next week

Just a reminder that I'm off to Austin way too early on Saturday morning and won't be returning home
until Thursday night. I won't have a laptop with me, and I doubt I'll be able to access a computer
while I'm there to pick up messages so...

I'll try to update the website again Friday evening, and then that will be it until the following
Friday. Sorry!

Also, is anyone still having trouble accessing the website? If you are, please send me an email and
let me know what browser (including version) and ISP you're using - make sure to put HHH or NYNY in
the subject line as my spam filter will definitely be on for while I'm away. I'm trying to figure
out why some people are having trouble accessing the website and not others. If you're getting any
specific errors (other than just not being able to connect) please also include that information in
the email.

Thanks,

Amberle3

Hopefully you'll get this before you take off for Austin. I did some experimenting on accessing the
NYNY website - what I found is really bizarre! It has absolutely nothing to do with my cache or
cookies. I can not access any angelfire sites using my normal connection ... Earthlink ISP, DSL
connection. Trying to see if it was an earthlink problem, I connected to the internet through
Access4Free using a dialup, got the website with no problem at all ... making me think it's an
earthlink problem. Now I'm even more confused. I connected once again to the internet, once again
using a dialup connection - this time through Earthlink. The website once again came up with no
problems. Evidentally it has nothing at all to do with Earthlink (on my end anyway), but for some
strange reason will not load for a faster DSL connection. Go figure!

Here's what I posted on the AT&T DSL Newsgroup:

.............. begin quote .......

While the site is still not working, I will admit to being impressed that someone (sat evening) just
called again on this issue.

She suggested that the dns for the site has changed (to that lycos subdivision) and that the AT&T
dsl dns tables that keep track of url addresses and resolve them has not yet updated and caught the
new address. (hmm, did I forget to ask her something...) That update does not occur daily from what
I understand but periodically. When it does check the angelfire.com, it will find it is now a new
dns and should resolve.

She further suggested that _YOU_ official AT&T-Newsgroup-Support-types use T1 lines or some such
and that they resolve differently and probably has the updated dsn for the site which is why you
get there.

But what I may have forgotten to ask - some users here but not the OFFICIAL SUPPORT appear to
be able to get there??? Or do you other folks also have a T1 and not just plain, ordinary
(sniff) dsl???

She suggested waiting a week or so and then she mentioned updating programs on my computer to
further track things if it is not rectified by then.

She also said the reason a modem works is that probably both CIS and AT&T Worldnet (dialup) probably
have updated their servers' tables on a different schedule.

We shall see..........

......... end quote ...........

So it may just be a matter of time - apparently the site is now angelfire.lycos.com........ which
may explain why it needs a "new address" that servers have to update to find.

Oops! I forgot to mention ... I have tried using two different browsers ... IE6.0 and Netscape 7.02.
Same results with both, so am still gonna blame it on the DSL. <grin>

While I do occasionally talk to myself..

I just tried the site and could not get on AGAIN using my dsl.

I then used dialup networking and the modem. I got in immediately.

I hung up that modem connection and tried again using dsl and could NOT get in.

Odd that speed of access would affect connecting?????

Joyce, who is your dsl provider? AT&T is asking me after we could not find my particular problem and
I mentioned others also have issues.

I'm another one using Earthlink DSL. My work loads the page fine. My modem in my computer is
currently not hooked up, though I believe my folks' dialup Earthlink works correctly. Angelfire was
working fine for me until about 2 weeks ago, whenever I first starting posting in this group. I use
Tiny as my firewall. None my logfiles indicate any issues though.

Well, that's definitely strange. I'm on a cable modem and have no trouble accessing it.

Is anyone able to access the site with DSL?

Do you have a proxy specified in IE? Have you tried do <CTRL> refresh?

Works fine from cable in the UK (telewest/blueyonder)

Ray

ps the form still gives me the following error. Oops! We can only accept forms that come from a
Angelfire URL. Sorry! Not that I use it, just telling you for completeness.

Thanks. We are still attempting to figure out what has changed. AT&T's dsl is actually covad. I
don't know about Earthlink.

Like you, I do not recall changing anything other then adding in ZoneAlarm. Now that could be a hint
but removing it did not fix the problem. And I was able to use the dial-modem and get to the site.

<beep beep> Betcha just love zooming around now! I can't believe how fast I became used to the
faster browsing speed. On the rare occassion I have to go back to a dialup (we do have occassional
dsl outages) it is so incredibly painful. <grin> Enjoy your new connection!

Just tried that and it did not work. I know that the site worked sometime last week. I have asked
AT&T about it. They suggested zone alarm but I just unloaded that and it still did not work.

Odd for sure.

That one I might have figured out:

I tried to do a form on my ISP's server, only to discover that they don't allow form handling. I
then put the form up on angelfire with a link to it from inside a frame on a webpage on my ISP's
server. Pulls up fine, but when I fill it out it gives me that error. So - are you somehow access
the website from inside a frame?

Fred,

In my area (Denver), Covad handles Earthlinks's dsl as well. I've had my firewall for over a year,
so it isn't new.

Covad is also the dsl provider in my area. Actually the dsl service everywhere is pretty funky if
you ever do the research. Lesseee .... Earthlink charges me for dsl service, covad supplies
earthlink (and all other isp's in my locality) with dsl, and sbc (ameritech/verizon/whatever the
heck they call themselves this week) supplies the phone lines for covad. Now when there's a problem,
it becomes very interesting watching each company fall all over themselves in an attempt to put the
blame on *the other guy*.

I don't currently have a seperate firewall ... did a year or so ago but then realized I also had one
running on the router - so deleted it. I don't believe it to be a firewall issue though ... as the
same firewall/router is used when I connect with the dialup.
