  1. with all these longer miles/kms you been doing lately,
    you must be knackered!
BR14 probably wasnt the best timing for you, but be interested to hear what improvements/body feedback your getting.
Going form a longhaul SH-Sorrento-return ride and then BR only a few days later you must be feelin/seein stars

    what gives?

The sorrento ride was an experiment to get an idea about food / drink
requirements for ATB. Since last years ATB, i hadn't ridden longer than
about 130kms (which was on BR9?) so i was kinda worried about ATB since it
    seemed to be looming quickly🙂
It was good to do the distance and feel pretty much ok the following day.

Ive also put on around 5kg's since the BRW triathlon in march as i havent
been doing much excersise at all over the winter. I had a goal last year
after ATB to be 20kg's lighter and 2 hours faster for the 2004 ATB but i'm
not going to make the weight goal by like 8kg's so there goes that plan🙂
Hopefully i can make the time goal though..

The improvements have been shorter recovery times (i actually felt like
commuting the day after riding 210kms), the weight has stopped increasing
and slowly started decreasing, my times up 1/20 and the wall have decreased
and ive noticed i can sprint to a higher speed on the flat.

I havent ridden all week due to the bike being in the store getting the
ultegra kit fitted. My legs still burn a bit when i walk up the stairs at
work so i take that as a sign of having done worthwhile excersise on the
    weekend🙂 I've gone from a 13-27 cassette to a 12-21 with the upgrade so i'm
looking foward to finding out how much it's gunna hurt climbing hills🙂

    12-21!!
Damn.. I plan to swap my 12-23 for a
12-25 when I upgrade next.. I figure if
I'm a sprinter there's no point being able
to hike up the hills, so I plan to spin up
the hills and save as much juice as possible
for crushing the hopes of those stick-bandit,
    vertical-loving roadies at the line..

You either have strong legs or I'm gonna
see you walking your bike up some hills! 😉

oh, you'll find out on the Alpine Classic soon, buckaroo!

just try Burgundy St hill in that 21 🙄

Pantani said that if you had anything bigger than a 21 fitted you arent a true climber, but i think he weighed about 3kg...

man i struggled with the 27 up burgundy st🙁
the plan was to get a 2nd chain and rotate chains every x amount of km's.
maybe i should go a 12-25 cassette as well and use that when i know im going
    to ride el-bastardo hills

That was one of the hills I was thinking of.. evil
    [censored] it is.

Yeah, I think he was around 55kg!
You could fart on the start line and knock
    him off his bike..

I really don't think the 21T is a good idea then.
You are gonna ruin your knees trying to climb
with the 21T. Could you ask the shop to swap
it before you pick it up?
I struggle up that hill with a 12-23 and (no offence)
you didn't look quite as skinny as Pantani to me
so I guess you'd be similar to me in that regard?
You could go 12-25 or more. I'm not sure if there's
a 12-27 option or not. You could use multiple
    cassettes but that's a pain.
Do you specifically need a 12T cog?

Why did you go to a 12-21?

    I had a 12-21 8sp (cos it was a free Record cassette 🙂
    and I've gone to a 12-25 10sp - so it's the same ratios plus
    a 23 and a 25.

Makes me realise how much I was suffering on some steeper hills with
    just a 21.

So, was it a conscious decision to go the 12-21?

ALthough not in the same fitness league as Dej, I opted for a 12-27 cassette on the double chain ring Ultegra equiped bike I had built recently. Works very nicely on el-bastado hills

well i found the 13-27 ok but im still really experimenting with things
(this is the 1st road bike ive had for 15 years and ive only had it a year)
all this talk on the 21 has kinda made me regret it🙂 but i'll give it a
    go..
the big master plan also included another wheelset for use on rides other
than commuting so i would put a 12-25 or so on the spare wheelset and use
the 12-21 on my commuting wheels, where the hills to-from work are really
just short bumps when compared to mt dandy🙂

Aah. I go for KFC-brand fitness myself. Makes you go faster apparently.
AND they have cool little Thunderbirds toys too 😄
