Nice work DS. Gilbert seems like a likeable kid too. I didn't see HV because I was out running in the morning but did watch KBK on Cycling.tv It's a nice resource for the races they cover. I thought KBK was a nice race with a strong finish. From what I read here and what I read on cyclingnews, HV looked like it was a good race too. Can someone who saw HV explain what Boonen was complaining about here...
"Yesterday was a stupid race really," the World Champion told Sporza. "There never was real racing happening. I was like: 'common guys, what are you doing here?' I was disappointed by the tactics, but that's the other teams' good right - maybe we would have done the same if we had been in their position.
He was super strong...lets hope he hasnt gone over to the dark side like Lance and Museeuw.
Ah I don't think that's the case. He's always been there or there abouts since his neo-pro debut in 2003, so you could say this year is his breakthrough year 😎
Boonen was tactically a disaster in het volk. He was trying to be the next devolder; attacking at places were it had absolutely no effect. It speaks for him that he wanted to honour the jersey in belgium and show the belgian fans (gotta remember he moved outta belgium to monaco!) that he is real about this season........
But Boonen has said to the belgian media that het volk was ''a stupid race'' which was hard to ''control''. He was glad though that Gilbert won, cause van Bon and Steegmans were only out there to ''exhaust me''......

So is this the way to beat Boonen?
that's funny. someone comes up with a tactic he cannot match and it amounts to a "stupid" race. I guess if he is referring to teams doing whatever it takes to make Boonen lose even if they serve it on a platter to another team, that is stupid.

I don't think he was tactically a disaster at all... He was just observing riders like Wesemann (could they follow or not)... Here a picture of Gilbert, i made it about 1000 meters before the finishline. More pictures at cyclingheroes.decyclingheroes.deOpen ↗ (Boonen and Hushovd playing chess.... Van Bon and Pozzato with another round of chess...)
