In a style mag from yesterday's Mail on Sunday, the usual lycra lout diatribe. I actually enjoyed this piece after a while though, it seems London cyclists are getting right up his hooter and he tries to convince himself that he is enjoying the pleasurable experience of driving in London - yeah right!
Hands up who wears neoprene rubber shorts!
Sorry for the rubbish layout, I had to scan it in two bits.
Nothing more entertaining at moaning at cyclists. If not that then moaning at the potholes and congestion caused by other people (not motorists of course!). In the interests of balance (and cheap laughs) online mag has decided to have their own moaning petrolhead now at www.citycycling.co.uk/issue8page2.html.

He was cycling the wrong way along the road past a building site. a van stared to reverse out of the site, pedestrian on the pavement having stopped to let van out, van stopped encroaching slightly onto road and then stopped to let me pass. Cyclist (on wrong side of road) continued past pedestrian, saw van too late and swerved directly into my path. I'd seen him, the van, the pedestrian and the impending "accident". Cyclist wobbled round the van between me and the kerb and carried on on the wrong side of the road.
It did flick through my mind whether I should help him in his obvious quest for an entry in the Darwin awards, but had better things to do with my time.

He doesn't seem to have had an original thought in a long time. I wonder if he's been dining with Clarkson recently.

I got as far as the byline and stopped reading. He's just another one of those boring media [censored] with a misguided view of the worth of his opinions. I've read enough of his [censored] in the past to know I won't give a fig for anything he has to say on /any/ subject, even the ones on which he is supposedly an expert.
I laughed when he said blokes my age should wear nothing but Paul Smith (no not *that* Paul Smith) suits or else look stupid. What working class bloke is going to walk around Hull in a 3 piece suit for heavens sake?

Interesting societal comment there: My uncle spent most of the 1920/30's unemployed in Liverpool. Every day he dressed in 3 piece suit, tie and hat.... and kept body and soul together hustling in the snooker halls..

Regardless of his dining habits, he's certainly overtaken Clarkson in the Meeja [censored] stakes. Consider Exhibit A:
Incidentally, I wonder if Jones ever got to the end of the Third Policeman, and its attendant sympathetic portrait of a man/bicycle love, quite outside the confines of Sgt Pluck's Atomic Theory.
From the sounds of it we should write and tell him about all the famous people who ride bicycles and he'll be a convert overnight.
He should know - a few pages before his tripe there was double page spread featuring "A listers" and their Cannondale MTBs.
Do you have a scan of it? I feel the gist of a letter coming on about those people he's complaining about being the A-listers he aspires to associate with but until he learns to abandon his car and don neoprene (sic) he will never move in their circles.

Not all A list of course... Some cycle for speed, others for effect and a photo opportunity. Those ones only cycle whilst being escorted by their bodyguards in a Humvee.
Alexei Sayle, Eric Clapton, Jarvis Cocker, Bono, Sandi Toksvig, Jon Snow, Robin Williams, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes
Not forgetting Boris Johnson of course - he just needs escort in Liverpool

There's an egregious typo at the end where '[censored]' has been accidentally typed up as 'editor'.
Of course he uses the illegal habits of some London cyclists to justify his drivel.
He also claims that paying road tax[1] gives him the right to use the road. I pay as much road tax, insurance etc as him. As for petrol tax, you don't have to use petrol/fuel to use your car on the road - it just gets to be hard work pushing it. You pay for your convenience, not for any right.
If MVO's do own the road[2], it was a bl**dy stupid idea to build them on rights of way..

[1] or similar vernacular descriptions for VED. [2] Which they do, in common with non-MVO's

Clueless all over then. It's a sad fact of life that the London media seems to be constructed to provide a comfortable living for our more witless brethren.
