Helsinki Coverage in USA

No coverage of the championships? Further proof that what I've always
said about joggers is true.............no one cares what you want or
think.

Maybe no one ever told you this, but TV networks are in the job of making
money. They do this by selling advertising. They have to buy the rights to
the broadcast. If a network cannot find advertisers for an event (or cannot
justify the expense to promote other shows or for some big off like the
Super Bowl), the event is not going to make it on the air.

I remember people moaning about the Olympic Trials being on PAX--it was the
best Trials coverage I can remember. The 10,000 was shown without a single
commercial and the coverage actually went over the scheduled time (it was
live) and they stayed with it.

I look forward to PAX and also plan to drop $5 on the internet option.

I am sure the state funded Eurosports will be carrying it as will CBC
(another state funded TV station).

PAX television will provide condensed coverage of the 2005 IAAF World
Track and Field Championships. The network will broadcast from 4-5 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday. On weeknights, PAX coverage will change to 5-6
p.m. Aug. 8-12 and will revert back to the 4-5 p.m. schedule for the
final two days Aug. 13-14. A complete schedule and live results for the
2005 IAAF World's can be accessed at www.iaaf.org.

i've never seen this "condensed" version/packaging though. i can recall
enjoying watching american football when i lived in hong kong. it was
"condensed" w/no downtime between plays of more than 1-2 seconds. snap
after snap, and a whole game would take less than 1/2 the time it does
normally to watch.

one part of track events that i enjoy that i suppose will be chopped
out on PAX is the drama pre-event. i really enjoy watching sprinters
for example go through their rituals just prior to the gun, observing
the body language, noting who looks loose and comfortable and who seems
tight. especially with all the false starts.....was that Drummond who
was DQ'ed for the false start and in protest layed out their in front
of the blocks on his back? it could very easily take 6-8 minutes or so
to get a clean start for a sprint event....and i suppose that content
will be edited out from the condensed presentation....they'll just show
the clean start.

i would love to see the camera isolated on Radcliffe for example for at
least a full 5 minutes before the start of the 10K. Hopefully the
internet coverage will provide that aspect of the drama of track &
field. The build up.

I agree -- I think they will be able to provide pretty decent coverage, even
if it's condensed. But the webcast is also a good deal for $5.

Because sprints are very short, they can afford to cover them quite well,
and because the USA are expected to do well in them, they probably will
do so.

there is also a 1 hour highlight show on CSTV(college sports television)
from 10-11 eastern time. in this highlight show u are getting the same feed
with the same commentators that u are getting if u purchased the interent
broadcast which is far superior than what u see on PAX.

This PAX coverage is pretty bad (coming from an American perspective).
I understand PAX simple licenses it...but the Brit commentators...my
god....the worse. I guess it's the "British stuff upper lip
thing....always composed, etc."...no excitement, no enthusiam....dead
pan as can be. It's as if they're in a library or in the middle of a
church service or something.

Monotoned as hell....no juice, zero...nothing...start to finish, any
event. Ya wanna sell track & field to Americans?...we like
"color"...colorful commentary, etc. NBA, NFL, etc...show some friggen
enthusiasm for crissakes. Many of these events should be called just
like horse races. These commentators are like zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Pay $5 and get everything.
