Help with headset identification

Interesting. Thanks for the input. How does this fare compared to
conventional or internal ones?

It is a "low profile" 1 1/8" headset. It goes by a few other names and
there are plenty of folks who aren't really aware of it. It uses the
same headtube bore and crown race specs as a conventional 1 1/8
headset, and they are fully mechanically compatible. The only thing
that differentiates it is the aesthetic created by the flared headtube
and the cups shaped to match.

Yes it looks very pleasing. I'm in a slight dilemna because if I wish
to buy a better headset, namely something
from Chris King, but I'm not sure what to get that'll be compatible
with my bike. When do you think my bearings would need replacement. I
have put about 5000 miles on it so far.

headset life is one of those things where the achievable ideal ends up
being kinda far from reality.... good headsets maintained properly can
last a very long time, somewhat indefinitely.
there are very few headsets available that use the "low profile"
contouring. but if it wasn't clear before, you can use any normal 1
1/8 threadless headset.
