Helmet for recumbents

Only recommendation is get a white helmet..... lots less heat than a darker
one.

Helmets designed for mountain biking may have vents that favor a heads up
posture for the air inlets. It's hard to tell from looking at pictures or
even looking at them in a store how they will perform on the bike. As far as
color goes, I think the inch of foam cushioning between the helmet skin and
your skull kind of makes that issue moot.

The air coming in past hot plastic will be.... warmer. Regarding the vents
not being aimed correctly, that's what plastic milk jugs are for... and a
pair of scissors..

Although not made specifically for recumbent use the Spirit II
White(stock # 00-045LB) by Troxel works very well. You can pick one up
at equestrian supply stores.

An equestrian helmet is just the ticket.

You can also find interesting alternatives at any BMX or freestyle
bike shop. These have no undulating aero functions, which I perceive
as silly on a recumbent -- but that's just me, and they have no wild
graphics. Apparently, skaters and BMXers deocrate them with stickers
and decals. BMX helmets offer more protection for the back of the
head, like a skating helmet, and usually have a solidly molded surface
rather than a thin skin taped over the foam. Mine is from ProTec,
plain white.
