  1. My friend and I were talking about doing some helmet cam stuff for riding...his wife overheard and
now she wants to get him a camera for Xmas, so I'm doing a bit of research on this for her.
    Obviously time is short!

Can anyone give me some info or links on a good setup for the camera (obviously we need a recording
device/camcorder as well, but that's another issue)? We weren't talking about anything high-
    end...maybe around $150?

  3. Wow..I bet you really had to think hard about that one.

Anyway....I was looking at HelmetCamera.com and they have a whole set up (camera, batteries, wiring,
etc.) for about $200. Seems like that might be better then going the piece-meal route. Anyone have
any experience with this company's stuff?

You didn't seem to think very hard before you replied either. I'll spell it out for you then. "I

Really...Take a look at the prices on the typical lipstick cameras. They cost $100-200. THATS WHAT I
WAS TALKING ABOUT. In the future, if you want to make another unhelpful smart-ass comment and not
look like an idiot in the process, I suggest you do some more research.

What's your problem? You asked for opinions and you got one. If you already know what you want, why
are you asking? If you want me to do research and solve your problems for you then you're going to
have to pay me for my time. So I repeat For $150 you'll get a very nice helmet.

  11. I guess I always just find it amazing that someone will actually take the time to post a response
that has essentially no helpful information. Guess I'm just funny that way. Thanks though.

There are obviously tons of video options out there, and there are plenty in the price range I
stated...perhaps too many. I was hoping that someone who actually used one of these things might
respond on how they liked them.

I do appreciate the replies that have been helpful.

Pete's link, but seeing as that is also in the FAQ, both. 🙂

(top posting fixed, 'cause it didn't follow the thread...)

Sure, if you don't count in the cost of a new helmet to put the camera on (unless you can figure out
a way to keep it stable without drilling anything, which isn't easy), not to mention a new camcorder
with the right inputs and digital video outputs...

But hey, go ahead and be snappy.

But hey, go ahead and be snappy.

Note my post above..."obviously we need a recording device/camcorder as well, but that's another
issue." I apologize as I probably wasn't entirely clear...I was just asking about the helmet-camera
itself. The camcorder and stuff he can get, no problem. Mounting hardware, batteries, cables, etc is
something we'll need to figure out unless he gets a full kit, but again that's not really an issue
    at the moment.

Just to clarify, what I am looking for is information about what is a decent lipstick-type camera
that can be mounted on a helmet. Something that costs between $100-200. There are tons of these type
things out there and it's hard to figure out what is or isn't suitable.

    Thanks again.

.....and that's what Perre was talking about too before you went off in a snit. Your OP talked about
wanting to spend about $150. He replied that $150 will cover the cost of a good helmet.
Sooooooo.....anything you buy beyond just the helmet is going to put you beyond your ballpark $150.
Particularly if you start mounting a $100-200 lipstick camera (your figure, I'll take your word for
it) on it. Okay Einstein, now do the math. Unless you're going to use duct tape, you're going to
have to up your baseline price. That was the point our friend Perre was getting at. Apparently you
were too obtuse to figure that out on your own, though I'll politely refrain from labeling you as
the idiot, after all it is the Christmas season. So is this YOUR idea of research?

Are you a friend of Dave's by chance?
