I'm not totally inexperienced, as I spent my early days pushing a freestyle BMX for some years. And the last 10 years on a sports motorbike... but it's not quite the same, I know.

Anyhow, enough from me. Look out for some newbie questions coming from my direction.

Welcome to the forum Ed. There probably are groups in your area willing to drag along a newbie. Maybe if you post where you're from you might get a response. :p 😉

he fell into the river and drowned.

The moral of the story:

Don't worry about me, I've got my bike helmet lined with aluminum foil. It keeps the beam from getting locked on target. 😉 😄 Thanks for the concern though.

I'm an Ed myself, from Sacramento, California. Do check out the forums here. Read the posts. I suggest, also that you hit local bike shops and talk with the people there as far as what local clubs are around. It happened that I found a site called excercise friends or something and I registered, not thinking much about it. I mentioned I was looking for someone that would want to ride on the local bike trails. I was contacted by an older gentleman that lives north of me. We'll get together and I, as a more-experienced cyclist will help someone who wants to get into biking for health to enjoy it more.

You did the right thing to start out by making a post on this forum. Keep up the good work. And I'm sorry you had your bike stolen. That sucks.

Welcome to the cycling world, im sure youll love it!

The Northern region of Sydney has some great MTBing spots. One of my favourites would be the Cascades track from Belrose.
Red Hill and Lizard rock, off Wakehurst Parkway is excellent for drops and rock jumping/BMXing.
When you've got a few ks down, I highly recommend Great Northern road from Buckety to Wisemans Ferry and Snowy Mountains is a MTB playground.
One of the hardest rides I did was the Hunter Range track and old army road in Wollemi National park.

I was in Roswell once and the only "aliens" I encountered were the Illegal kind!
